I havn't really began riding a bike, but I havn't ridden one all winter. I just started again about a week ago. I ride about 20km each day (broken down into 4 drips) on an old mountain bike. Aside from my legs being sore, I've noticed my groin area aching and my but also... it doesnt feel like muscles, it feels like the bone..

Could the groin pain be caused by something else? or is it definetly the bike?

4 trips - sorry for the typo.

The groin pain is actually on both sides starting at my croch and going upwards towards my two opposite hip bones (yes, into my abdomen area) but doesnt go far enough to reach my hipbones.

uh, yeah! That is why I switched to a recumbent bike! I still have a couple of "wedgie bikes" too for occasions when a 'bent is not the tool for the job. but I will NEVER ever ride a bicycle farther than a couple miles if it is an upright style ever again. My wrists, butt, elbows and neck suffer too much! Some 'bent converts call upright bikes "Butt hatchets" or "wedgies" (I say it with affection because I STILL like standard bikes)

But if you INSIST on riding the old butt splitter, there are some things you can do. Buy a Brooks saddle, or at least a good leather one. Break it in with a little neets foot oil and Proofhide. it will be the most comfortable saddle you have ever ridden. Second, adjust your handlebars a bit. Most people have them too far down, raise 'em some! Also, make sure your seat post is the right length. don't sit on the saddle like a wet sack of sh....um....sand, you need to have your weight BALANCED between your feet, hands and butt. AND you need to ride some. A plastic saddle is garbage and foam ones doubly so. When you get them, they are super comfortable, in 6 or 7 months, if you ride the bike at all, the saddle will be in tatters and painful! a leather saddle only gets more comfortable as you ride. Look at your shoes, which ones do you like the best, well broken in leather ones, or plastic flip flops! and which ones LAST longer? DO NOT GET A RACING SADDLE! No matter how cool! (the exception being the Brooks "Swallow") they are not made for comfort! they are made to be light! and to sort of keep you from sitting on the seat post.

note here. My son in law complained about his bike seat a lot. I oofered to let him USE my Brooks Champion Flyer saddle (for Men, ladies try the B-66 or B-72) that was 4 years ago and he has not given it back YET! He is still using it!

but in one way, the only way to get used to it is ride the bike a lot! Best advice? ride in a gear about 2 cogs too LOW and keep your feet moving quickly! and DO NOT strain on the pedals! You can destroy your knees if you push too hard...guess how I know THIS one!

Your soft tissue just needs time to get used to it. The pain should go away in a week or 2.

Ouch....just thinking back to when I started riding & rode 2 days in a row. It hurt so badly to sit on the seat.

Now I can ride with unpadded shorts & not get sore.

Hope you are wearing riding shorts. This is normal. I have been riding for 14 years, and I still get sore down there, especially after not riding the whole winter.

Common- not at all, maybe 2 to 5 % of teens, less than 1% of adults. I've never seen a shaven male in any locker room in all my years working out nearly daily. most teens do it because they have heard it makes their penis look bigger when erect. It doesn't, of course. probably 99% of all guys who shave the first time never do it again. Not practical for working out or fitness; the hair is designed to protect the penis and scrotum and helps wick sweat away and prevent chafing. You'd have to ask each guy who does it their personal reason; some do it because their girls complain about the hair if they are into oral sex. Can't imagine why any guy would shave his man badge because a girl told him she didn't like it. he shaves it off, and she'll find something else to criticize.

Are you wearing bike shorts? Any trip on the bike no matter how short, is more pleasant for the nether regions when using shorts designed for riding.

Yes it is normal. The seat has not been broken in enough, but it will soften as you ride more. You can buy extra gel seating to cover the seat to make it more comfortable for you.

definately, it's just like horse back riding. after you are suited to the seat, you won't feel anything at all
