Feel free to replace "church" with "KKK ralleys", "biology class", or "Nascar", as it is appropriate for you.

I was raised an atheist. Came to Christ on my own.

Next?

(Note to self: Don't tell the truth if you don't want an avalanche of thumbs downs.)

I don't have to. They didn't take me to church since before I could talk and I am a believer.

Generalize much?

EDIT:
Hehe....get this. The asker emails me: "How can I be generalizing when I let the answerers fill in the blank so it fits them personally?"

Golly gee...I didn't do anything but ask a question that could be answered with a "yes" or "no". What would make you think I was implying anything other than just asking a question? I mean, when someone asks a question, there isn't any way that there could be some subtle underlying statement involved, is there? Does that ever happen?

Hehe.

no i dont wounder i know what i believe.
My parents never took me to church, and im so glad
i dont believe in god or that guy or whatever you want to call it

We are all animals with big brains, thats where god comes in, big brains make things, other animals spiecies dont have beliefs.
the only good think about religion is that it makes the ppl who believe, good manered nice and not to criminal, although i dont like the fact they say you can ask for forgivness! even after you killed how many ppl, think of the people who this person killed there lives are over and all you have to do is ask for forgivnes, well theres a good reason someone stupid might go on a killing spree , sorry if i have offended you but we all believe in something. something different

I was thinking about this just the other day.
Although I am now a different denomination than the one I was raised in (both are Christian), I was just wondering the other day if the reason that faith and believing is so easy for me is because of the early indoctrination into Christianity. Reading Y!A a lot, I am really taken with the fact of how many staunch atheists there are. I have lots of opportunities to pray for strangers, that's for sure.
And I do. (Yes, I know they don't care, but that's OK)

I don't know how it would be for me, had my background been different.
I am always so amazed at how God works in peoples' lives. I have a friend who was raised as a Jew in an Orthdox Jewish household, who even kept her home kosher as a single girl, and is now a Christian. How does that happen? I don't know, but I am thankful for a God who truly knows what is best for every one of our lives, and is more than willing to show those who crack that door even the slightest bit....

Actually I went to church as a child in first grade for a couple yrs or so. My parents took me of course but when I got in Jr. High I went to conformation and didn't go back until I was an adult. I'm thankful for my earlier exposure because it was never shoved down my throat but I'd have missed out on what I have now if they hadn't.

I don't have to wonder.
I was indoctrinated with Catholicism, from birth, rejected it as a young adult and then found God and Jesus later on.I guess im now what you,d call a fundie.
I was also raised in an abusive home with alcoholism and became an alcoholic/addict myself.later as an adult i cleaned up and with the help of God changed my life around.
so if your point is people mindlessly become what they are taught then you are partly right .But at some point in your life you have to decide whether it,s working for you or not.we arent hoplessly trapped into the mold we were poured into. It,s a choice.

Good question. I think it would have been whatever else was there to influence me to a degree. My dad's a scientist which led me on that path, but my parents were both republicans (when I was young) and I was never in line with that sort of thinking. I think I'd be pretty much the same as I am now.

My parents took me to many different churches as I grew up. I still do not have a clear understanding of any one form of "Christian" religion. I attempted to stick with one church with my children...and it worked well until we moved out of state...7 years later I still struggle with finding a good church to take my children to. I have always wondered what it would be like to just have one church to turn to and believe in.

The only time my parents took me to church was for someone's wedding. Otherwise, they weren't interested and usually hungover from the night before, admittedly. One is now dead from cancer and the other has recently repented and turned to Christ.

I've been going on my own accord for about ten years.

My parents didn't take me to church. I didn't have a Christian upbringing. Sometimes after I got older we might attend a service at Easter or Christmas but did not attend on a regular basis.

Thanks for the permission to replace, lol.

I know this is hard to understand but, my parents, though they took me to church and are Christians, are not the reason I chose to believe. My choice was made consciously and with a great deal of thought. I know you all ask this a lot...but then ask yourself, what influenced your beliefs...and is that the only reason you believe them? Or do you have a mind of your own and make your own choices.
