Your "Everyone" must be a small circle. Ford engines can easily take you a quarter million miles before being rebuilt. Just like anything of value, you have to take care of it for it to last. Ford has a lot of product out there. The more product out there, the more likely you'll find people that cannot afford to maintain it. Those that don't maintain it will have problems. This is not a brand specific issue.

Ford Explorer is a very popular SUV. It didn't get popular by being awful. It's popular because it works well.

Not sure who the everyone is that says Ford engines are no good, but they should get their facts straight because Ford has some of the best engine technology in the business. The new 3V V8 in the explorer is a great motor-no jap engine comes close to the smoothness & torque, not to mention the 6 speed trans. Theres a reason Explorer & Mountaineer are best sellers year after year.

Ford's engines are good. I've heard more complaints about the transmissions. My guess is that the average American doesn't know how to take care of an engine and transmission. Maintain them well, and they will last a long time. It is absolutely important to replace the transmission fluid and filter at regular intervals - for any car - even if the manufacturer says not to do it for newer models. If the car has a long life or life-filled transmission, replace the fluid anyway at 60,000 miles. Make sure the proper fluid is used.

Maintain the engine by changing the oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, and wire set regularly. Most modern engines don't need timing adjustments anymore. Ford engines should last a long time if taken care of properly. An owner needs to be knowledgeable if he or she wants the engine to last. I don't know much about truck/SUV engines, but I know that Ford V6s for cars can last past 180,000 miles with proper care. I expect Ford's truck/SUV engines to be just as reliable.

The biggest problems that Ford seems to have with their engines, are oil leaks due to trying to mate aluminum parts with Steel engine blocks causing the aluminum parts to warp and in turn causes them to start leaking oil. Other than that they're pretty good engines. My parents had a 95 Ford Explorer, it was pretty nice, just had a few issues with the fuel pump relays, which turned out to be faulty wiring on the fuel pump but other than that no major problems, my stepdad drove it to work every day and didn't have any problems.

They also seem to have problems with people rolling them over easily, which is due to the high center of gravity, and people not knowing how to drive. Slow down around corners and you won't have any problems.

bet you people didn't know that ford is now up to date with toyota in quality and reliability. it's really just attitude from previous ford owners that when the models were not as sophisticated, they got pissed off, bought a japanese car and found it was way better than a ford. now ford has learned the hard way and is making way better vehicles than they previously were. also, the ford explorer has been the best selling SUV in america.

Rest assured its not the switch on the side of your transmission, that is a nueteral safety switch and only effects the starting of the vehicle. the second option is your torque convert real easy way to test that is raised the back of the vehicle so the tires are not on the ground and then place it in drive, but ake sure your front wheels are chalked very well ans you are in a safe area. if the vehicle goes into drive and the tires instantly move with the rate of the motor then its your tc. the other possibility is your air idle control valve. the way to test that is to just simply rev up you vehicle it park if thier are no sputters or hesitation it is fine.

Fords biggest problems are with their engines and transmissions, they are not a bad looking vehicle for the most part but looks are not everything.

If you still what a ford buy an extended policy and not from Ford, buy it from an independent and if you don't buy the policy save about $250.00 a month.

All I own, buy, and drive is Ford. It is a machine and you have to take care of it. I've never had a problem with any of my cars. I've had a Focus, an F-150 double cab, F-150 super crew, and now a Fusion.
