I KNOW YOUR HEART LADY EAGLE. BUT GOD KNOWS IT BETTER. PRAY EARNESTLY , READ HIS WORD DAILY AND YOU WILL BECOME SO OVERJOYED THAT THEY CAN'T KEEP YOU OUT OF CHURCH!
IN YOUR SITUATION I WOULD FIND A DIFFERENT CHURCH TO GO TO, ONE THAT WILL WELCOME YOU WITH OPEN ARMS.
ALSO GOD WORKS IN HIS OWN WAY, NOT OURS. PRAY FOR GUIDANCE. I WILL ALSO PRAY FOR YOU BECAUSE I LOVE YOU. YOUR SIS IN CHRIST

1) The only way to know HOW to follow Jesus is to read scripture. Read the NT. Start out by reading John or Mark in a single sitting, then again slowly, day by day. Then stretch your boundaries.

2) Equally important is to pray. Speak to God. He is your Father, Creator, Friend, Savior, Judge and so much more. Spend time with Him - since He is the most important one in your life now.

3) Join some fellowship of believers. It doesn't have to be a "church." The Acts church (the first church) was a group of believers who came together to sing hymns and help one another. There are so many good things about joining other believers:
a) coporate worship
b) others to talk to about spiritual issues
c) accountability
d) loving community
e) models of Christ
f) ministry opportunities.

God bless!

Amen! Praise be to God. If you have honestly and sincerely decided to follow Jesus, the ask Him to show you the way. Before, I used to think there was no point in going to church since in my mind i reasoned that there are a bunch of hypocrites in there anyway and i don't like hypocrisy. What I did not consider was that church is like a hospital with many sin sick people and Jesus is the Doctor. Though merely going to church is not as important as having a true relationship with Christ, we must not forsake fellowship:

"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some [is]; but exhorting [one another]: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. " Hebr.10:25

Not all in the churches are hypocrites and many are sincerely seeking a closer relationship with their Lord. Many may be going through the same struggles as you and as this Christian walk is not always easy, it is comforting to know there are others treading this path and seeking the Kingdom of Heaven. Fellowship is also important so that you as well can encourage others (this makes you grow in faith) and you can pray together.

As you surrender to Him, He will guide you in the path of light. You will then be delighted to follow His commandments including the 7th day Sabbath (Saturday) as He commanded and never changed as the popular "protestan"-catholic churches do these days. Sunday worship is of pagan origin.
Read Exodus chapter 20. Jesus Himself kept the Sabbath and even when He died, He rested in the tomb on the Sabbath then rose the 1st day of the week.

It is also a very good idea to read all about Jesus in the 4 gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Reading the entire Bible would be great of course but you start of slow.
And of course: "Pray without ceasing" 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Welcome to the Christian life, as without Jesus there is no true life. Any questions let me know!

***
Good point Uncle Thesis - yes, make sure you go to a church that does not teach lies like the immortality of the soul and infant baptism and eternal hell fire, and don't forget the true Sabbath. Read and study scripture for yourself and you pray for understanding. God will surely show you the way.

Your asking Jesus into your life is the first step. The second step is to learn more about Him and what he is teaching us. The only way to do that is to read His Word. The Bible is the ONLY place he left instructions for the way He wants us to live our lives while here on this earth. B.I.B.L.E. Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth!!! Don't leave earth without it!!

You don't HAVE to go to church but it is recommended in the Bible and it DOES help to associate with other believers. BUT, don’t forget. A church is NOT where saints go to show how holy they are. It’s where sick people go to get better. Don’t think of it as a show place, think of it as a hospital for the spiritually sick. I used to think if I saw sinners and law breakers at a church, I didn’t want to go there. Now, the more I see there, but better I like it. Also, if you attend a church that teaches the Bible, book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, you will learn more than a church that teaches on topics like “LOVE” “PATIENTS,” “FORGIVING,” etc. A church that teaches straight out of the Bible, does not leave ANY of Gods words or instructions out. They cover and explain it better than most. I have been fed more from Calvary Chapel than any other church I have attended. http://www.calvarychapel.org/

Your job now is to learn more about Jesus and what he taught while he was here on this earth. LOVE Him, Pray for a closer relationship with Him and ask Him for the strength to obey his Word.

In Him,

Did you ask Him in because you BELIEVE He is with you?

Did you ask Him in for the right reasons?

Did you only ask to test the water... see if He really does exist?

He reads your heart and soul... your mind and all of your intentions... long before you even finished thinking them yourself... He is a jump ahead with every thought you have!

If your heart and soul and mind truly called on God through Christ... if you meant the prayers you offered... then stop 'testing' Him and being impatient... the timing for his answers in your life are His... in His time... when he reads the true intentions inside you... He can test you... you can't test God!

If you truly meant it when you asked Him in... He already knows... and now... you must prove this new resolve and eagerness to know Him... by being patient... continuing in prayer each day... (you don't need a church... you don't even need to kneel... just talk to God through Jesus as you go about your life... as if you were speaking to your best mate... because that's exactly what He is!

Then... patience... belief... trust... and constant FAITH... for the remainder of your life... that's what it takes... however hard life gets!

God bless:-)

What an excellent question! There is a book called, "The Purpose Driven Life" that is being studied by many Christian groups and church groups that sets out some ways a believer can live his or her faith. There are no hard and fast rules about what you "must" do, but some very good suggestions about how you can become a person of value to yourself, your family and your community by living in a way that would please God.

Sunscour's answer was very good. Without a Bible, you cannot find God. Read. Read. Read. Read.
Try these websites:
John MacArthur at www.biblebb.com
Chuck Smith at www.tfwt.com
J. Vernon Mcgee at www.ttb.org
Billy Graham at www.billygrahm.org

Any answers you get to your questions, make sure the person answering you can quote book, chapter, & verse. If they cannot, it may not be of God, it may be a spiritual terrorist. Read 1 Kings 18 & 19......the key is pray, read, meditate, & believe.....God will hear you. You will find where God is in 1 Kings 19:12.

And pray. Pray. Pray. Pray.

Matthew 14:23 (Christ went apart to pray); Luke 11:1 (deciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray); Luke 18:1 (Christ tells us to always pray); 1 Thess. 5:17 (pray without ceasing); Matt. 5:44 (pray for the ones that persecute you).

J. Vernon Mcgee is a very good minister for spiritual beginners.

We will pray for you.

You have lots of advice here. Rather than get into the denominational stuff, I am curious about why you are not at a church at this time. From what I have read of your questions and answers, your faith seems very real, sincere and focused. If you would care to, drop me a note about that. I would be happy to respond. Write me at coachtopp@verizon.net.

My advice would be to go to church. In church you get together w/ people who want to praise God, just like you do. You can make friends w/ these people and praise God together. They are there when you need support, a shoulder to cry on, or if you have any doubts, they can help you. That's the main reason people go to church.

God bless.

Although I don't attend church at the moment, either. I do think it is important. Not because you are scoring points with God, but so you can be a part of the community of believers. You were given gifts that were meant for "others" just as others have gifts that were meant for "you."
