After all, perpetual motion machines are impossible. Yet people still try and convince others that they are real, and even sell them to the gullible and the greedy.
Same thing goes for god. Such a being is impossible. Yet people continually try to convince others that it is real. And sell the gullible and the stupid "afterlife insurance" (what else do you call tithing anyway?)
Impossible machine = impossible sky-pixie.
Yep, that about covers it.

No. That would be all the fanatics out there. Religious fanatics are like cockroaches. You kill one and twenty more take their place. You shed some real light on them and they all scatter. The religious fanatics are what keep the perpetual motion machine of ignorance and oppression going.

And don't get me wrong. There's nothing wrong with having FAITH. Everybody's got to believe in something. But there's a difference between having faith and believe-my-way-or-die religious zeal (y'all know who you are).

You just can't make comparisons of the metaphysical to the physical. People at the turn of the 20th century thought they had pretty much exhausted the field of physics until people like Einstein and Hawking blew the field out of the water again with the notions of space/time, relativity and quantum mechanics. The fact is, there's still a LOT about this universe we don't know. I am completely infatuated with science myself. At the same time, I believe any reasonable person must come to the conclusion that there's things we probably still don't know about physics and the universe in general. Perhaps there are different rules in parallel universes, other dimensions, etc. We cannot firmly say that a God is impossible based on how little we know.

""afterlife insurance" (what else do you call tithing anyway?)"
I call it acknowledgment that God is more important than wealth.

"Such a being is impossible."
And if you say so, then it must be true, right? Pardon me if I don't take your word for it, as you given nothing to back this claim up.

"Yep, that about covers it."
And from such a devastating and thorough argument, I'm sure religion and theology shall never recover.

It might be impossible, but if you feel the emotion, it's there. The belief will make you feel good.

If you honestly feel that way, then turn your back on the concept of God--if you can.
