why do people detest Muslims?

what have they ever done to people who hate them.

i came across someone whos username was 'kill the muslims'.

Correction: Not all people hate Muslims; Many Americans do. You travel to other countries and you won't find that problem there.
Many Americans hate Muslims because of the events of September 11 but they don't want to realize that those men, those terrorists where radical Muslims.
Islam is a religion of peace, not violence like many Americans like to say. It is very unfortunate that the whole religion and the entire Muslim population is being judged by a few radical terrorists.
And no, I am not Muslim but I have read the Qu'ran, and I know what it says.

BTW--Kill The Muslims: Just so you know, Muslim women are treated with far more respect than American women. Take you head out of your a*ss and learn something.

First, that is a horrid user name. The hatred of Muslims by other religions as well as the pagans of old began from years of Muslims warring on others (all others) to attain territory and riches even long before Christ. More recently, obviously it is because some factions, calling themselves Muslims, have committed terroristic acts including 9/11 and kidnappings and torture.

However, this does not mean that all Muslims are "bad" and many of them do not support terrorism in any form and really are peaceful, loving people (I have to speak of the ones I know personally, not the ones here).

Our tendency to put people into categories and then generalize and stereotype them is an act of hate and bigotry. No matter what a person believes, they should be seen as individuals and not generalized representatives of belief systems and anything ever done in the name of that belief.

I think the way most Muslim majority countries seem to revoke every commonly held civil right that the modern world accepts would explain it.

I have nothing against Islam exactly, I'm just not wild about how their societies work. I mean, if white America suddenly decided to force blacks and Asians to wear beekeeping suits in public to avoid offending white people's sensibilities, world opinion would be that the USA had finally lost it's mind.

And what is the world to think when news stries like the ones below crop up every day of the week. My favorite;

Because people are ignorant and afraid of what they don't understand or know. Like one person said., many of the terrorists are muslims so the media targeted the muslim religion. So if a whole bunch of Christians kill people does that make all Christians bad? Who are any of us to judge somebody because of their religion., I am a Christian and I am proud to be one. And that is our right to be able to worship as we please. So if u wanna be a muslim or a christian or a buddhist or a jehovahs witness or a morman..that is your choice. Do what u feel is right for you but dont be a bigot because someone is a muslim or any other religion.

People who hate muslims..for the sake of 9/11...should open their eyes really n see the world ,the guy who killed sooo many innocent ppl at the virginia university was a christain..now if tommorrow u were to see the news.. I don't detest Muslims or those who follow any other religious teaching, except when the slaves to 'any' religion preach hatred and kill those who are not in agreement with them. I suspect that your question really is "Why do Christians detest Muslims" and I ask you to consider "Why do Muslims detest Christians?". Both faiths have off-shoots or sects and hundreds of years ago Christians killed each other and then grew up, Muslims haven't! They still kill each other in the name of God. Islam recognises both Mohammad and Jesus as Prophets but can't agree on the parts they play. Do you, Muslim and Christian think its time to go to Arbitration?

Come on guys, be realistic. I understand that there are muslim terrorists but there are terrorists in ever religion and nationality. Do you hate the Basque population in Spain because of the ETA terrorist group? Do any of you even know someone who is a Muslim personally? Muslims make up about 20 percent of the world population. How can anyone hate 1,283,000,000 people, I mean it's absurd.

I would say the people are scared. Not that they have anything to be scared of, but unfortunalty the media have ensured that society as developed a fear of Islam.

People have mentioned 9/11, yeah the responsability for this was claimed by a 'muslim' i say that in quite marks because it was said in the name of the religion, but muslims do not believe in terrorism. As a result the media have got hold of this which as resulted in stereotypes been developed.

People are scared of what they do not know. Many people do not know about Islam in order to understand it so they listen to all the media hype. Unfortunatley this as a spiral effect and has developed into Islamaphobia.

because it is so easy to fall into the trap of seeing is believing. Our great world media channels have made sure of over publicising events related to articles which even bear the word Muslim or Islam. it seems that it is so easy just to follow and agree and hate blindly for the majority of people.

No one follows Islam like it should be and the worst thing is that the people who give innocent Muslims a bad name are not even Muslims themselves.
