Because the way I see it, either God told one of the writers it was His word, or it was a collective belief by all the writers for it to truly be the inspired word of God. Regardless, if a writer was told it was in fact God's word, has anyone else been spoken to by God since then? If it is a collective belief (on the assumption that it is indeed an inspired collection) why is it impossible to have inspired writings today, i.e. adding to the Bible?

All I'm saying is, the argument that the Bible is divinely inspired, and we know this because the Bible says so, epitomizes the idea of a circular argument.

When you are born of His Spirit, born again, then the Holy Spirit will tell you personally.

You are right on buddy. I believe it was the Catholic chruch who put all the books together. But you have all these Christians treat it as if it were some magical book always together that way. The books within the Bible do speak of other writings that are not part of it. I believe that the books in the Bible are the inspired word of God EXCEPT I don't believe the Songs of Solomon are inspired revelation. It's just some guy going off writing what I call "Poetic pornagraphy".

You are quite correct, there is no specific place in the Bible that says something like "...this is the word of God as dictated to me directly" Some Xians have tried to use the Gospel according to John ("In the beginning was the word....") as proof, as well as other isolated verses. But close reading of those verses demonstrates nothing of the sort. It is only by faith and religious convention that believers believe anything...including the idea that the Bible was written by a deity. Even if there were such a verse, and it was quite explicit and clear, that still doesn't get around the problem of independent confirmation.

The age old problem is that the Bible can't be used as its' own proof of authenticity or veracity. Xians never really seem to get the illogic of the following typical conversation:

Atheist: "How do you know the Bible is true?"
Xian: "Because it is the holy word of the most high God, creator of all things"
Atheist: "But how do you know it it the word of God?"
Xian: "Because it says so in the Bible"
Atheist: "But how do you know the Bible is true....oh wait, we've done this part already"

certain. I do perpetually. I used KJV at the same time as reading myself. and that i have maximum Bibles. I actually have them appropriate on-line too at my website and in my organizations. The NWT new testomony has maximum effective be on hand and in English purely when you think about that 1950, the completed NWT because 1960. Jehovah's Witnesses used KJV earlier than that once which American commonly used and some different Protestant verses practically as good. they purely at present went out of print with us as they're really undemanding to get in different places and on-line. Debbie Edited to characteristic: gray Tower, there are a good many different Bibles that use God's call in the NT yet they do it in Hebrew. The sacred identify Bibles of the more desirable than some church of Yahweh do (they spell Jesus Yeshua commonly too even although). The 2001 on-line Bible made with the help of impartial scholars and the Nazarene acquaintances Bible and that i assume some others also do practically as good....Others use footnotes that the NT texts are places the position God's call seems as they're direct prices of such verses in the OT. Edited back with a view to characteristic: i'm unable to imagine every person reported the KJV Bible is the Bible Jesus gave. The oldest translation of KJV least confusing dates lower back to 1611. the present revision of it really is nonetheless called that, although is from 1769 (in accordance to KJV components). so a recommendations as i recognize, English develop into once now no longer even in use in Jesus' time, in any case now no longer anyplace close to the places he and the apostles preached to contained in the content textile of the NT. the lack of precise income about even the finest of old assistance very surely astounds me about human beings in religions.

Well, if you research the information about the bible, there was a LOT of material by early Christians said to be devinely inspired that didn't quite make the cut into the bible. In fact, early Christians were nothing like modern Christians, the history is quite fascinating, but I warn you once you do a serious investigation into the origins of Christianity, you will no longer feel like arguing about it... and it will kind of make you giggle a little bit and shake your head whenever you walk by a Christian church. : )

2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

"as they were moved by the Holy Spirit".

Why not today?

Mar 13:23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

All things threw the prophets in the Word.

2 Timothy 3:16 (New International Version)

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

When a person becomes born-again and starts living a life for God, His Spirit lives in them. By spending time reading the Bible and learning things, that person will become more used to who God is and how He works (which is awesome). God speaks to me all the time, and it isn't an actual audible voice, but it's more of a sense in me. And I know it's Him speaking when what He said lines up with what is written in the Bible.

So, what you're saying is, the Bible is not allowed to testify in its own behalf. Criminals can. Defendants in a court of law can. Just because you are accused of a crime, that doesn't mean you can't speak in your own defense. The Bible has been accused of the crime of being made up, self-contradictory, or outright lying. 2 Timothy 3:16 is the reference you are looking for. But if you won't believe it, what's the difference, anyway?

the bible is nothing more than a very old fairy tale. written by humans, hence it is fallible. i have read the babile. i went to catholic school and was forced to read it. even as a child i found nothing inspiring about it. it's nothing more than a book to me.

you do bring up a good point though. why is it god has not made an appearance since the bible was written? you hear of people seeing the virgin mary and jesus on a piece of toast all the time, but never god.

The New Testament is a "Historical account of the life of JESUS assembled many years after him".

It is not the "word of God".

Those who think the words of a few pious historians is the word of God are only showing how deluded a human being can become.

It would be far better for Christianity to be honest with themselves first and others.
