I would like your opinion on this subject. I have been a waitress for 8 years and I have a lot of back and leg pain from work. I had some hydrocodones left over from a broken toe and i found when i take them when i get home from work, it helps me be able to take care of the housework, laundry, cooking, ect.

I work very hard, i am married with 1 child and 1 stepchild and i waitress 5-6 days a week(anyone who has waited tables i a large, fast-paced restaurant knows how hard it can be on your body), i go to college, and I take care of all the housework and I find that when I take hydros, they help with all the back pain i have and help me get more done.

I dont take them all the time, maybe a couple times a week but i have explained this to my doctor, she wont give me any. I dont think i am abusing them. i dont see the difference in taking hydros than in people who take xanex for stress or anti-depressants. how do all these people i know who arent even in pain get them and how do i

CHRISTY,

BEING ON YOUR FEET ALL DAY IS TOUGH. I SUGGEST YOU BUY SOME COMFORTABLE SHOES, LIKE ROCKPORT FOR WALKING, AND MAYBE INVEST IN AN ABDOMINAL BELT FOR YOUR BACK.

BACK EXERCISES WILL HELP A LOT. NARCOTIC DRUGS WILL NOT. DOCTORS KNOW THERE IS NO REASON FOR MORE DRUGS, THAT'S WHY THEY WON'T PRESCRIBE.

I had the same problem with my doctor, so I asked her about alternative medications she WOULD be willing to prescribe. We came up with Ultram (Tramadol), which works almost as well without producing nearly as much of a "high." Doctors are therefore more willing to prescribe it. You might try having a similar conversation with your doctor.

If she won't even give you Ultram, though, you might consider finding another doctor. People with chronic pain shouldn't have to suffer when there are perfectly good pills to help them.
