You can't convice an atheist that God exists no more than you can convince a Christian that he doesn't...why try? A person is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs...why try to impose it on another? Is it because you are unsure of your belief yourself as an atheist or as a christian? Think about it...

LOL you question rests right under mine on the RS page. Maybe great minds think alike huh? I am wondering the same thing actually and wonder why we cant just have a free form of information exchange without the ugliness and what not.
But to answer your question I do think it has something to do with uncertainty of the individual beliefs. Its seems as if to force it upon someone else helps reaffirm thier own beliefs...kinda like if I say something enough times I will believe it.

I'm an atheist, and I know I will not change any Christians mind, all I want to do is at least TRY to make them think and at least see that their belief is, well, not quite as sound as they believe.
I really have nothing against religion or religious people....what I DO have a problem with is when religion and religious people try to tell me how I should live my life. After all, atheist aren't trying to impose their beliefs into the government, but Christians are. I have a serious problem with that.

If you knew of something great, life-changing, wouldn't you want to share it with people around you? What kind of question is that? Stop trying to be the Ghandi of R&S, this forum is a great format for debate. C.S. Lewis was for part of his life an avowed athiest who was convinced in the reality of God and Jesus. Of course people can change their beliefs. If someone doesn't like it they don't have to be in the R&S section, because by being here, they pretty much are looking to champion their belief. Grow up!

I have made the same comments, lol. Hope your response is better than mine.

I really do not care what others believe, I just like to talk to people about religion. I admit to playing the "dumb blonde", the "devil's advocate" (settle down Christians, I am one of you so do not think that means I am a Demon okay, its a real means of communication and debate, nothing more), to answering questions as if I did not realize they were put downs or jokes, lol. I am often harder on some Christians than I am on anyone else...but in the end, all of us have a right to believe as we choose (United States residents anyway).

Hey...but I love everyone, really.

Grace and Peace

A person who try to convince the other about the non existance of God, he\she is confused about the existance of God. Once a scholar took longest time in explaining that ther is no existance of God. A person who spoke next to him said, prior to this he was under confusion about the existance of God, but now he is sure that there is God, because had there been no. God, the gentleman might not have spent such time in disapproving HIM.

Oh, I don't try to impose my beliefs on others, my ONLY purpose for being here is to set the record straight as to what our beliefs as Christians and Catholics REALLY are.

There is so much mis-information out there. People are then free to believe or not, but at least they will have been told what our beliefs are.

It is said that there are very few who hate the Catholic Church, but Millions that hate what they think it is.

Peace!

When man is stumped trying to figure what created the universe God becomes the default. We just don't know people. What I do know if there was a God this entity has nothing to do with creating the limiting bibles the religious say is God's word. Man is left to his own devices to figure out how to live peacefully on this planet. As long as we argue over a God, that doesn't have a voice of his own, this takes away energies that can be used to solve real issues on this planet.

RELIGION IS DANGEROUS!

“We have just enough religion to make us hate, but not enough to make us love each other.” -- Jonathan Swift

“Many of us saw religion as harmless nonsense. Beliefs might lack all supporting evidence but, we thought, if people needed a crutch for consolation, where's the harm? September 11th changed all that.” – Richard Dawkins

“I am against religion because it teaches us to be satisfied with not understanding the world.” – Richard Dawkins

“Acceptance without proof is the fundamental characteristic of Western religion, Rejection without proof is the fundamental characteristic of Western science.” -- Gary Zuka, in 'The Dancing Wu Li Masters' ... [and on and on...]
