ok my boyfriend is stubborn as anything and doesn't listen to me when I say there is a big difference between "loving" someone, and being "in love" with someone. he says love is love, the only difference between loving a boyfriend/girlfriend vs. loving a friend is that you can "sleep" with your bf/gf and not a friend. does anyone else thing "love" is love and there is no difference between loving someone and being in love with someone? What do you think the difference between loving someone and being in love with someone is?

Usually when a person is infatuated (rather than being inlove) they think the person is so perfect and he or she couldn't do anything wrong. Being in love is knowing this person's flaws (including the ones that make you so mad you could stab them if it was legal) and still wanting to be with them. There is love, and then there is being in love, and it isn't all about sex.

I'm assuming the question is in reference to a boyfriend / girlfriend, and not a family member or general friend. When somebody says, "I love you, but I'm not In-Love with you.", then be very aware such person is extremely confused. It is not possible to love, but not be in-love, because falling in love comes before actually loving the person. So when you hear such cheap statements, then it's your first clue the person doesn't know what true love is because he/she has never experienced it yet. You might also consider moving on and looking for someone else, because you're probably wasting your time with that person. 1st gear - There are different torques (strengths) of love in a relationship, but "falling in love" is only 1st gear, because it is the initial infatuation seed being planted in the relationship. How it grows from there is up to the couple. This is also where intimate affection may occur and Oxytocin is being released into the brain. You really can't get anywhere at all without Oxytocin (look it up, it is essential in pair bonding and romance). 2nd gear is care. You care deeply about the person and would do anything for the person. 3rd gear is sacrifice. You're willing to make sacrifices for the person, and to keep the person in your heart. 4th gear is commitment. You're willing to make serious promises that the person will always be your one-and-only center of your universe. 5th gear is marriage. You would rather die than not be with the person forever. 6th gear is maximum true love. This is where you have sworn your soul to love the person even beyond death. If the person dies before you do, then you will never seek another. Hope that helps

I have loved many but am in Love with the one. There is a difference between fondness and commitment, so I think on balance you are right.
Sleeping with your BF/GF used to be called "making Love" because it did.
If you are sleeping with your boyfriend and he still loves you not, get the hell out of that relationship!

There is a difference. You love your sister/brother and parents. And then you are in love with your girlfriend or wife. Just because i love my sister doesn't mean i'm sleeping with her. A lot of times though, many people get "in love" and "lust" confused. Just get those straight and you should be good.

There is a large difference between being in love and just loving someone. I do not believe sex is a part of that feeling. I've had both see the person I'm with now, I'm in love with, the person I was with before I loved. The difference is vastly emotional. When you are in love with someone, you tend to wish you were with that person as much as humanly possible. When you are in love, your whole day could have been rotten but somehow when you meet up with that person, you rotten day seems to melt away. When you are in love you get butterflies in your stomach before you see them, and anytime you think of this person you tend to daydream and smile. When you are in love this person could be the ugliest person in the universe but no matter what their flaws you think this person in wonderful in every aspect.

The person I was with before I loved but I wasn't in love with him. We got along well. We could talk about almost anything. I was comfortable around him, I knew his flaws, he knew mine. But my heart didn't race when we were about to kiss. When you are in love, no matter how old you really are, you feel young.

I guess I would describe loving someone as someone that you care about, you care what happens to them, you care about their well being but there's none of the giddy sort of feelings to go with it.

I understand what you are saying about loving somebody and being in love with someone. To me it's really about your own personal opinion. I love my friend, but I'm not "In Love" with them. I guess it's the way we feel and use the term. I consider loving someone to be : wanting the best for them, enjoying their company, basically just having the best intentions in mind for them. In love, I use when I'm wanting to give myself to someone in mind, body, and spirit....when I want to spend the rest of my life next to that person....etc etc.... Hope this helps!

Actually the differnce between both is very little. When you love someone,it can be your darling, your friends, your family(anyone who u feel close to) You would usually show care and concern for them. When you are in love with someone,it usually means you are attracted to that person(ie.Usually referring to couples) and that you have feelings for that person.

I will always love my husband....but there are periods of time when I'm absolutely IN LOVE with him and damned near obsessed with him. There is definitely a difference.
