I am a penny pincher. I read that you save on electricity (even if just a bit) if you turn off your tv, DVD player, and VCR while you are not using them (ie -- they are all plugged in to the same power strip and I just click it off). Does this harm the TV in anyway but not letting it forever be in "standby" mode during the day? Thanks!

It depends on what you think of as "bad" Turning all the power to the tv, vcr and dvd player will not do any harm to any of those units. However, almost all vcr's and some tv sets have clocks in them to keep the time. Most of these clocks need to be reset everytime you power back up. Also, channel memory may be lost along with color, brightness setting on the tv. I would think the power saved by turing everything off would be offset by power used while resetting all the lost information.
