It would be hard to maintain without going on a retreat of some kind. It is an attractive thought isn't it?

Gifted with the speech power, it is improper to take a vow of silence. However one should think twice before speaking, speak meaningful / useful, refrain from telling lies / filthy and keep away from talking nonsense, or else speech is silver and silence is gold.

The tongue has no bones ; but it can break steel. It the tongue that is the cause of all strife in the world . When talking is likely to create misunderstanding and trouble , it will be advisable to keep mum.So also it is good to keep mum before self -conceited and ignorant men. It is good to talk to talk to innocent people and ignorant people who are not self-conceited and arrogant . Genarlly it is always safe to keep mum unless and untill it is absolutely necessary to talk.

None at all. ... I doubt you'll ever *successfully* explain such a silly concept to others. ... I mean, why not a vow of Not-Blowing-Your-Nose? ... or Not-Tying-Your-Shoes?
