You can buy water purification tablets at most camping or sporting good supply places, and you can order them online.

You can buy water purification tablets from any Army surplus store or a sporting goods store that specializes in camping and survival. Or you can boil the water for at least half an hour, but an hour is recommended.

Personally, I wouldn't risk this unless absolutely necessary. The last I read, it's estimated that over 90 percent of streams in the US are contaminated with e. Coli and other bacteria, as well as parasites and other nasties. You can pay dearly for your drink with a long stint in the hospital.

Most camping equipment stores and marine (boat) stores will have tablets. There are some ones now that do not leave a bad taste ... follow the directions carefully. Or, boil vigorously with a rolling boil for at least 5 minutes. Gilardia is present in most streams and gives really nasty, long lasting stomach problems.
