Should you get a tattoo on your neck if you work in a Customer Service place? Is it appropriate?

Well if you had one and your boss didn't like it, you would either have to cover it up with thick stage makeup or wear a turtleneck everyday. I would talk to your boss if I were you. You don't want to get fired over a tattoo, unless you don't like your job. If I were a customer and saw a tattoo on a customer service person, I wouldn't care or give it a second thought. Other customers might make an issue of it, though.

Working in customer service means that you have to conform to the business's idea of what a front-line person should look like... and that is based on what the perceptions of your customers are.

If you work in a tattoo parlor or similar establishment where tattoos and piercings are the norm, then fine. If you work at a grocery store as a cashier or at a cell phone store, then no, it's not acceptable. Tattoos and piercings are very controversial, just as dressing goth is... there's nothing wrong with any of those things, IMHO, but some people really don't like it and will base their decisions on whether to shop at a store based on that. So, your boss is going to require that you conform to a standard, including uniform, neatness, etc... and that will probably mean no neck tattoos, too.

Sorry...

Depends on how strict management is. I worked in the music industry (in an office environment) and tattoos were not frowned upon. Just depends on the workplace. I think people are getting more and more laxed about ink but some places still have dress codes and rules of conduct that need to be strictly adhered to. My husband has sleeves of tattoos (and one on his neck) but he is in the construction field where mostly EVERYONE is sporting some sort of ink. Just remember that it's permanent. I have 8 tattoos including 1 BIG one on the outside of my upper arm and a tiny one on my wrist. Being a girl and having a 14 year old son, I sometimes have to cover up out of respect for certain occasions which can be a real pain. sometimes. Good luck!

Depends on the job. If it's high retail and you're dealing with alot of upscale clients than probably not. There will be people even in that walk of life that could care less so long as their needs get fullfilled, but a majority might look at you differently and not take you that serious. Also make sure it's okay with where you work. Don't just go get them and then expect your bosses to deal with it. But then again there will be jobs in that area that don't mind. I work retail over nights and some days to help fund my photography, and I have 3 on my neck and haven't gotten a complaint yet. If anything it intrigues people and I get more customers simply on the fact that people are curious and like to ask when I got them, if they hurt, what do they mean, etc etc. Really it depends on what you're doing as work, with what kind of clients, and if your boss and company policy permits it.

Those are not appropriate in a professional environment. If you plan to have a career you better think twice where to put the tattoo. Some of your customers / clients may be offended or even scared by your tattoo.

I work in an office and have a tattoo on the back of my neck. It has never been an issue, my boss hasn't even mentioned it. Although I can conceal it by putting my hair down, I never do. It totally depends what field you work in and what the tattoo is. If its completley offensive, then even if it's on your arm you shouldn't display it at work.

neck tattoos are not for most people and i guess it is up to the individual if they want to get one. generally i would say that you should not. most of the people i know with neck tattoos are tattoo artists or other types of artists who are self employed or piercers who work in tattoo shops. most of society is not at all accepting of neck tattoos (i'm talking about neck tattoos on the front and side, not on the back of the neck)

If the people see you it is not very professional to have a neck tattoo, but maybe if it is over the phone work it would be okay.

I personally feel that it would be fine, but unfortunately the majority of America is probably going to disagree with me. As much as I wish people weren't so close minded about body modification, the hard truth is that many are. To answer your question; I think that realistically, it would be innapropriate.

On the bright side, the world is gradually moving in the direction of accepting more and different kinds of body mods. Some countries even have laws protecting basic rights on body modification called "freedom of expression laws."

If you already have the job, check your handbook. The answer is already there. Tatoos have become a major issue in today's workplace.

If you are going to do it, take a shirt with yo so that the tatoo artist can see how high the shirt goes, perhaps he can lower it to the shirt levei and you get what you eant, and the booss doesn't complain.
