Hi there. Portland is a great small city. I believe one of the major magazines such as Gormet or Bon Apetite is about to name it as the best city in which to dine out. Let me give you a quick overview.
Climate: Basically a marine climate with very warm summers and mild winters. The overarching weather element is a continuous onshore flow of moisture from the South Pacific. This results in quite a few days of rain each year. The summers, however can be extremely warm. The result of this is a beautiful green city with amazing scenery.
City: The city is strung along the Willamette River and features a riverfront park, as well as many grassy parks within the city itself. It has some of the best architecture for a city of its size anywhere in the world. It is very pedestrian and bike friendly, and features a first class light rail system known as "Max."
Attitude: The trees as well as the attitude of the people is "green." The political climate is mostly liberal with people very tolerant of each other. There is a tendency to elect people to city office who are "off the wall." Its a town that loves their eccentrics.
My Recommendation: Get onto Priceline and book a 4 star hotel in Portland. Last time I was there I got the Hilton for four nights at $90 US per night. Its a good location for taking a look around. Fly over and spend a week. If you are serious, you need to actually have your feet on the ground before you make a decision. Having been in Seattle, Vancouver, Las Angeles, and San Francisco in the last few months, I think Portland is currently the most livable.
I hope that helps!

Portland is a small town. I think it rains a terrible amount year around and there are very few sunny days and its located on the Willamette river which may not be very clean. The city has a high number of freaky people living in the streets always begging for money. I don't remember any professional sports teams there. I don't think they have museums or art gallerys. They do have a little, tiny zoo. So as you can see there is not much to do. They do have some restaurants but none that I consider outstanding. Not much fun there for me.

I finally couldn't take it anymore and moved to Seattle. Wow, what a difference.

Portland is one among my all-time regularly going on cities (and that i'm a international tourist). that is amazingly stylish and, for my section, the cleanest contained in the international. there's a lot to do and a good number of places to bypass! it really is in an astounding region, too. purely an hour from the sea coast, Mt. Hood (skiiing in iciness, trekking/tenting in summer season), 2 hours from the Deschutes for whitewater rafting, 4 hours from Seattle (if for some reason you should bypass there), an hour from the capital, and minutes from the suburbs. Downtown is really stunning 3 hundred and sixty 5 days round. sure, it rains, yet no longer almost as a lot as human beings ***** it does. and not in any respect almost what Seattle receives in precipitation. now and again it snows, yet hardly ever more desirable than 2 inches which works away in about an afternoon if no longer hours. contained in the summer season it continues to be on common contained in the mid to higher 80s and commonly contained in the 90s or 100s for a pair weeks. We do have 4 seasons right here and they are fairly incredibly diverse. that is a distinctly possibility-free surroundings and community (although North Portland, for all the strides it has made contained in the finest decade continues to be no longer an section i'd bypass till pressured). Housing is distinctly extreme in Portland, it really is the reason many have moved to the 'burbs. all the encircling cities (with the achievable exception of Milwaukie) are truly stunning and nicely cared for. i have lived contained in the area for the previous 8 years and a twin of it, although i elect the "smaller city" attitude and stay contained in the suburb of Wilsonville it really is purely south of Portland. Portlanders also are fiercely unswerving and characteristic an astounding experience of individuality. we are tremendous avid recyclers and were prepared on being eco-friendly earlier that develop into common. We boast many parks, eco-friendly parts, and furnish a good number of programmes for little ones. With 5 universities/faculties contained in the area, there is countless nightlife, too. In "short", that is a very stunning position to stay.

I love Portland, it's beautiful! but I can't stand the cold, rain and wind from the Columbia Gorge. It takes a special person to adapt to this weather. Hence, I moved to Miami.

Best wishes!
