Traditionally in Britain, the officer corps has always been a career path for royalty and the wealthy so I don't believe the poor man fighting a rich mans war problem as seen in America is evident in the UK. If he does go he'll only be following in the footsteps of his predecessors so from that perspective I don't see the problem. On the other hand if he presents a security risk to the troops on the ground then it may be cause to reconsider. Personally, I think he'll go to Iraq but end up in the ops room as opposed to being a multiple commander. Almost a comprimise.
For those of you that criticise him, remember that he was born into the royal family and has no choice in the matter. I certainly wouldn't want to be a royal. He has made mistakes in the past but what teenager or young man can claim to be much cleaner? Indeed most are much more badly behaved. If he were a politician I would criticise as much as some people have done here. But he isn't. Ultimately, jelously is ugly, and I notice a significant amount on this forum. Prince Harry may be put in a position where he could be at great risk to transform Iraq into a free democratic state, when in reality he is far from free himself.

He joined the Army didn't he? Do you expect him to have a symbolic enlistment or would you rather it meant something to him? It would be insulting to his unit to hold them out of danger because of the Prince (not to mention the insult to the Prince). I'm sure he'd rather not go through life with the reputation of being a toy soldier. Yes, it would be great PR for al-Qaida if they could grab him, but just how likely do you think that is? And if they somehow managed to capture him, do you think the British Army will just sit there and wring their hands? The vast majority of British troops serve their time in Iraq and come home just fine. The Prince's tour will be no different (except for the publicity).

Why would he have minders? Andrew didn't when he served in the Falklands. Harry and Andrew don't have minders when they are working and no he isn't putting his fellow troops at risk! He's not going to be wearing a big sign over his head saying who he is! One soldier looks pretty much like another in uniform you know.
Please learn the facts before making assumptions.

For Gran and country!
Why shouldn't he go, he's serving in the British Army, he should go where his regiment goes. As for bodyguards his Uncle Andy never had any in the Falklands, so why should Harry?
I feel for the lad he wants to do what he was trained to do and not have all this fuss over it, in the long run he is more likely to be killed by American friendly fire than Iraqi's, maybe then this government would stop wandering blindly into America's latest campaign for oil control instead of thinking for ourselves!
Good Luck and God's speed to Harry and all of our British forces and my hopes and wishes go out to all the Americans out there to, they don't really deserve to be out there serving under that dunce of a President.

i think this is the one and only admirable thing the "lad says" he is prepared to do for his Country.
it is obvious that he has always wanted to be in the army.
if he wasn't royalty, he probably would be a hero already.
let's cut him some slack and praise him for wanting to do what (many of us - let's face it, are too afraid to do) and that is to stand up and be counted.
whether we agree with a war or not - someone has to continue at the front
i think that he has a right to fight for us - and i wish him and his platoon all the best.
NB:another reason to allow him to go......can you imagine what he would turn out like if he didn't? he would have every reason and justification for being a complete "ar?e" creating even more negative media for the Royals/The Country and the War.......and we don't need that!
Tally ho Harry!

Prince Harry wants very much to go to Iraq.Their is no point in going to Iraq,it's a lost cause. If Harry wants to see what War is really like,he may.He is probably very strong willed, maybe even stubborn. For the English people, who rally against Iraq,I'm sure one of their Royals going their, is torture. If nothing horrid happens to him,if he makes it out alive,he will gain a sense of the reality of Combat.I'm sure on an admiration level, his Nation will be proud of his service.I am against War,since I served, maybe he will be also.

i think he should go so he can see what really soldiers do out there, plus he want to go so i dont see why not. Yes he is having security to protect him but not being funny but no one can protect him from a bomb or gun shots. Wish the press would leave that bloke alone. People would moan if he was not going and now they are moaning cause he is going, its a catch 22 for him.

Prince Harry should be allowed no where near Iraq. There are so many negatives..... What a PR achievment it would be for the terrorist if he were killed. Not to mention he would be putting everyone around him in danger.

It's a publicity stunt !
There is no way that pompous waste of space is ever going to be put in harms way.
He just wants to go off and roll play and pretend to be like King Richard II and prove that he is worth something (which he is not) and return home with some medals to cheering crowds of commoners.
He wouldn't even visit Auschwitz after his stunt impersonating a Nazi officer even though Charles insisted that he do so.
He is a so selfish, self centered, opportunistic and pompous that there is no way that he is thinking about going to Iraq for any reason other than how it will benefit him.
He reminds me of "Blackadder I".
In fact that should be his new nickname.

The point is a big ridiculous joke of a PR campaign.
If you don't believe me just look at the facts. His unit
is going first. Without their commanding officer. For
the very simple reason that it would be too dangerous
for said commanding officer to command a unit that's
not yet used to it. So who the **** is going to command
them in the absence of the glorious heroic prince?
Some replacement dude?
Leave that clown home and let him beat up some
photographers if he has to.
