It would take a lot of dead momen's hair to get enough to make all the hamburger buns that White Castle goes through.
White Castle's bread company would have to be at the morgue shaving every woman's head that came through there.
This rumor has been floating around for a long time.
There are some similarities between the molecules of the L-cysteine and the hair molecule, but they are different!
In response to the above post, it is a protein, but your hair has similar protein molecules.
Protein is found in many different substances besides human hair/

The FDA has no control over individual restaurants; only food additives (in this case) that may or may not be on the market.
I cannot see why White Castle would add an amino acid (protein building block) to a beef hamburger. L-cysteine is present in all living things, but is not normally an "ingredient" in foods. It is an ingredient in human hair and skin, but is a non-essential amino acid, meaning if we never ate it, our bodies could make it.
I think you must have heard an urban legend. And pass me a couple of those White Castle burgers, would ya???

You know I some how seriously doubt that, that just seems so way out there that it is beyond belief.
I think that there would be a lot of problems with that happening, so I very much don't believe it!

Yes, human hair allowed in food. Go to this site. There's to much to cut and paste. I was surprised when I read this.
