It could have been that the punch landed perfectly in a vital spot like the temple mentioned earlier. Also, the kid could have had some medical condition that was unknown and the punch lead to his death. Where I havent read the whole story I am willing to put my money on the kid got punched and fell back and hit his head somewhere hard and that is what lead to his death, it happens a lot and I know someone it happened to, you take a sucker punch and get knocked out, as you fall back your head his the concrete and that is the end. It was probably more caused by where he fell then how he was punched.

It could be that the victim had some underlying medical issues. In fact I think that is the most likely explanation. You don't say anything about the skill level of the kid who threw the punch. It's possible that we has been in martial arts for 8 or 9 years, in which case he will have not only more power than a typical 14 year old, but a lot more power than the average man. There are a lot of pressure points on the face. it is possible that he hit 1 or more just the wrong way. I'm sure this type of death while rare is not unprecedented. As for your next fist fight, why are you getting in fights? The best fight is the 1 you avoided.

this is a real example of a "death touch".
The reason these things happen is usually a combination of factors not entirely to do with the kids punch, but more to do with:
1- his punch and technique is a part- not the major part, but if you have tyson punching the midget who plays minime- well you get the idea. thier relative size is a factor.
2- how small/frail is the other guy- this plays a MAJOR role in it I would imagine.
3- where was he punched- ok, before people give me thier "dim mak" bulls hit, I mean it is different if you are punched in the arm and punched in the jaw or neck or even back of the head.
4- was he "ready" or aware of the punch. If I rabbit punch you while you are trying to get a drink at the water fountain and don't know I'm there don't you think that is a hell of a lot more dangerous than bieng hooked in the jaw when you are facing me, adrenalin flowing knowing we are in a fight.
5- medical conditions- someone's general overall health is unpredictable without each person looking at a "medical chart" before the fight- unlike martial sporting events you don't know how frail or if the person has a medical prob that they can't take much. Not that it has much to do with fighting technique and more with legal issues (unless you are fighting tom cruise, you don't want them to die during the fight), this is one of the real differences between a sportative event and competition training, and the "street".

First off there is no such thing as "lucky punch" the kid swung at the other kid and hit him, how is that lucky. The human body was not made to do battle, we are really frail if you think about it. It takes only 4.5 lbs per square inch to break any bone in the body, if done at the right angle. There are 1,000 of points on the human body, if hit right, would cause you to pass out or even die. Maybe this kid wasn't intent on killing the other kid but in all honesty it dosen't really take much to shut down another human being. There also could be other reasons, did the other kid have some kinda of illness? You can say this was a freak accident or luck but to me that proves that you can kill another human with one stirke, and it can be done without even knowing what your doing. Scary to think about those out there that know what there striking at. How deadly are those people.

Something like this is rare, but anything is possible. There could have been a lot of factors such as the kid who died maybe being a "bleeder." Where did the punch land? Was it an upward punch to the nose? The temple? Is it absolutely positive that the punch is what killed the kid and not the fall to the ground? A lot of factors to consider.

Most probably it was a lucky punch that hit a vital spot by accident. Getting hit in the temples or below the ears for example has been known to lead to death. Or he could have busted his nose so hard it caused massive bleeding. Then there's the concussion bit where the victim bounces his head on something solid like a brick wall or the concrete pavement after getting punched in the face, this could lead to a skull fracture which could be fatal.

I heard about a similar thing a few years ago. Two guys, about 14, got into a fight and then went home. A few hours later, one of the kids complains about a head and collapses. He died in the hospital from a brain hemorrhage (sp?). Apparently he got clocked in the temple.
So ya, it happens every once in a while. If you get hit in the head really hard and feel concussed or otherwise f***ed up, go to the doctor just in case.

It happens.
Sometimes, the person getting hit has a medical condition they're not aware of, that makes them particularly sensitive to concussions - one teenager recently died during a basketball game from a minor hit.
Sometimes, somebody will fall backwards and hit their head on a hard surface, like a sidewalk, and that's enough to break bones and cause brain damage.
Other times, a punch is just particularly well-applied, i.e. "lucky".
This is why you should never fight "for fun" in the street. Only fight people who give you no other choice and if you have to, fight with everything you've got.

Freak thing but it happens. When I was in about 5th grade we had this bully who would go around and beat people up almost every day. One day he picked a fight with another kid who was about the same size and that kid hit him 1 time and fractured his orbital bone and knocked him out cold. It wasnt like he was a weak small kid.
