DukeBlue - perhaps if you had to pay higher prices you wouldn't be burning so much gas and creating so much pollution?

Well, I would have to buy gas. Plus, my gas is more than $3 and since I don't have a reliable mass transit system, I can moan about gas that is about $3.50 a gallon.

I would be extremely happy if that was the case. I am a big fan of America, so I probably wouldn't resort to moving to Europe, but I would end up moving to New York City because they have the best mass transit in the country and I wouldn't have to worry about gas prices. As much as it sucks to pay more at the pump, I actually kind of like it when gas prices get higher because 1) people think more about how much they drive so there is consequently less pollution and 2) it opens to market for cleaner fuels. The fact is that there is no reason for prices to be where they are at if oil companies are making billions of billions of dollars, but if the oil companies want to be greedy enough to open up the market for other fuels, then be my guest because I will gladly buy something else that is less harmful to the environment and isn't found in the most hostile parts of the world

I'd like to say civil war, but amercans are generally spinless and weak about fighting back or questioning anything the powers that be do. All efforts to improve gas miliage are headed off by the fossle fuel lobbys. They can and have built carburetors that get 100 MPG.. but they've been made illegal. Alternate energy has been made impossible by the oil companies. and Example of that is wind turbine. When they came out people were able to buy them and generate their own power. Guess what happened? The OIL companies and fossil fuel companies paid speacial interest moneys to lay makers to bind it so tightly in red tape few can afford to do it.. Things like environmental impact statements.. PRICE one of those out. a minimum of 40 grand for ONE wind turbine. I think its quite clear that the envronmental impact of WIND is no detrimental. The USA sets up the deseases to sell the cures.. in fact they do this in ALL industries. pubtrans is crappy or nonexsistant in most places here. What would work there? Start staying hom on holiday weekends.. we should do that here. Every time a 3 day comes along the price goes up. Just park it all boats, motorhomes, cars, motorbikes.. just sit home.. watch what happens. Most have no clue what supply and demand is. You buy more they charge more. so, you want fuel,cars,drugs,housing.. ANYTHING to go down in price.. QUIT BUYING IT.

Great answer Duke Blue! Comparing gas prices in the UK to gas prices in the US are apples and oranges..completely different systems. Let's talk health care...exactly!

I would start riding a bike to everywhere I go, I think that at $8 a gallon for me to drive everywhere my pay better go up.

Since I live in TX they better use some of the oil they get out of texas soil to make gas.

Yeah, well the extra $5 is taxes to pay for your frequent public transportation net, so you don't NEED to drive!

Right now we burn 117 billion gallons of gasoline a year. if we taxed like you and spent it on transit, we'd have 600 BILLION dollars for transit. Our trains would be insane. France would be buying our trains. We wouldn't drive either!

At $8/gallon, I would pull my old bicycle out of the garage and use it. I can handle the$3/gallon but hope it doesn't go up much more this summer. I hope the UK pay rates are high enough to ease your pocketbook pain. That's an awful amount of money to go into the gasoline tank.

mmk

Eliminate unnecessary car trips, use AC less. I'm not moaning about the price, though.

I get soooooo sick and tired of hearing "we pay $8 gallon for gas in the UK". SO WHAT!!! In America, we buy more gas, use more gas and should therefore pay less. Maybe you guys in the UK settle for $8 gallon, but in the US we expect better!
