I keep hearing people bask Kirk Cameron about his faith. Does he not deserve a right to his own beliefs like anyone else?
He has done a lot of good, certainly more then a lot of people have.
He and his wife have 6 kids, 4 are adopted, and they are among the founders of Camp Firefly and the Firefly Foundation, which sponsor camping trips for terminally-ill children and their families.

So why all the bashing?

I will admit that I obviously don't know everything about him, and was not aware of any gay bashing incident. I do not personally approve of that at all.
I just thought people should know the good he has done.

Beverly, as you can see from many of the responders, they hate Kirk Cameron because he is a Christian. And not just because he's a Christian, but a Christian who actually obeys Jesus' command to "go and make disciples."

The "gay bashing" incident was nothing of the sort. It was typical of Kirk's (and Ray Comfort's) method of evangelism. And they don't use homosexuality as one of the commandments people violate that offend a holy God. They use lying, stealing, blasphemy and lust. It is only when the person they are meeting with bring up a sin, that they'll include it (if then).

It is because they don't keep it in the church, and dare share the faith with others (just like Jesus did) that Kirk is condemned. It has nothing to do with his acting skills, or "intolerance" of others. It is because he's doing something that makes people uncomfortable.

I thought the anti-Kirk Cameron videos were several seasons of Growing Pains.

Anybody who attacks evolution by presenting a ridiculous CARTOON version of it that no scientist believes, deserves some bashing.

There is nothing more dishonest that presenting your opponent's position in an absurd way, just so you can then call it absurd.

Also, his endorsement of Kent Hovind, who is such a well-known fraud that even other creationists (like answersingenesis.com) are embarassed by him ... says plenty about Kirk Cameron.

In short, his good deeds (which is what Christians do best) are undermined by his emphasis on spreading underhanded tactics for "witnessing" (which is what Christians do worst). Christ taught by *example*. But some Christians (like Cameron), when they use lies and distortions and exploiting a lack of education in the people they are ministering to (including poorly educated Americans), IMO is precisely MISSING THE POINT of Christ's teachings.

That deserves bashing.

He absolutely deserves his right to believe as he likes, as does every single one of us.

His choice of religion does not make him exempt from scrutiny or criticism of those beliefs, and in Kirk's case, his claim that the banana is undeniable proof of God.

Honestly, I wouldn't have a problem even with that, had he not renamed the banana "The Atheist's Nightmare". If you throw down a challenge, you can't not expect for that challenge to be met.

Unfortunately Hollywood has such a bad rap that people think any product of that life can't be genuine in their faith.

Good for Kirk, and his Growing Pains co-star Willie Aames for standing for what they believe in.

Stephen Baldwin is another celeb stepping up. I pray more will follow suit.

You know after seeing him on TV outside a gay bar bashing people, telling them they were going to burn in hell and berating them on tv, I just don't have much sympathy for Kirk. Never mind the fact that he uses his faith to make money. See the way of the master website for more on that sleaze. And for the record, I don't hate Christians.

"You say for those who are not "gullable" enough to believe in Jesus...admitting that these people DO have the information but choose to ignore it.
I don't know what happens to people after death. I do know that Jesus said He is the truth the light and the WAY and only those who believe in him will go to heaven.
I believe it is for everyone to decide for themselves, but to call those who believe in Jesus, gullible is insulting.
You also said people think he is made up...again so they are denying Jesus, even though they have heard of him...so making a choice.
It is for God to decide and judge, not for me"

Yes...if somebody told you that Jesus was actually a magician...you would deny it... are you telling me that belief in jesus is different from any other belief... we face loads of stories and we can choose to believ them or not...what makes jesus any different from the rest? All there is is a bible from 2000 year ago...if some are more gullable than others than they believe...what if someone needs proof to believe things...does god punish them? Yes i am deniying Jesus...i think the whole idea is a joke...but i still respect you enough to argue about why i disbelieve... in my opinion, we dont need to believe in jesus to go to heaven... will i get punished...does god expect everyone to say "O YES i believe in jesus now because of that old book"

My only beef with Kirk Cameron is that his wife is waaaaay too hot. He doesn't deserve to be with someone that gorgeous.

Good works are one thing, but ambushing strangers for Jesus crosses a line.
