It depends on where you get a tattoo. I've got three--one on the small of my back, and one on each arm. None of them hurt very much--the pain level was about that of a sunburn. However whenever my back tattoo was healing I got a little irritation from my pants rubbing against it. From people that have a lot of tattoos, I've found out that the only ones that hurt are the ones over bone, especially feet and hands. There aren't that many risks. As long as the place is clean and they use sterile needles, you're alright. AFTER you get the tattoo you could get an infection but that's not likely as long as you follow the care procedures they tell you to do.

The pain from a tattoo really varies on the location and your natural pain tolerance. Bony places where the skin is thin hurt the most - places like the top of your foot or your chest. Fatty places like breasts or your hiney typically hurt less. Either way, there is always a cream that most studios will use (if you ask) that numbs the area. Downside is that the cream takes about 2 hours to fully kick in.

Also, tattooing caries some risks, but not as many as society would have you think. You can get infections if you're not careful. STDs pose another threat, but they can be easily avoided by going to a reputable studio and making sure that they use new needles and ink, and that their equiptment has been sterilized in a working autoclave. if you're really worried about it ask the artist at the studio to see documentaion the the health code standards are up to date.

A little fun fact - There is not one documented case of HIV infection from a tattoo in this coutry. Might want to watch out for Hepatitis though.

The most important thing is just to be careful and safe. Follow your artist's directions on taking care of your tattoo afterwards. Don't be stupid about it.

It depends. Each person is different. you do need to have some sort of pain tolerance. It basically feels like a continuous cat scratch. I have 5 and absolutely love getting them. To me it is extremelly relaxing. Yes tattoos can get infected but they won't if they are cared for properly. I don't suggest getting one done outside of a tattoo shop. Unless you are extremelly good friends witht he person tattooing and no that they would use brand new needles and all of that. Make sure you follow all of the tattoo artist's instructions for care of the tat and you will have no problems. Like I said I have 5 and have never had a single problem with any of them. Good luck. I am getting ready to go get another one here soon.

From personal experience they do not hurt, you can feel it but not excrutiatingly so. I had mine done on the shoulder blade right on the bone. Risks are very small and only if the tattoist isnt of a good hygeine standard. Make sure that they use a new needle for each person and all the equipment is steralised throughly, if not there is a risk of hepititus c among others.

It feels like you are getting pinched, over and over and over and over and over again. The risk of infection are low, however the risk of disappointment is great. If you show up with a drawing of exactly what you want and you like the work you have seen make sure you get that person to do the work. To help reduce the risk of infection. Make sure you keep it covered and use an ointment on it until it heals.

it depends on where you get it some parts of your body are more sensitive then others I got 5 and the only 1 I can say really hurt was the one on my lower back the one on my leg and on my arms didn't really hurt much. and if the tattoo shop does not take care of their equipment and sterilize it like they should then you can get a infection before you get your tattoo make sure it's a clean well thought of tattoo shop

All depends on the person!
Some places hurt more than other like my foot hurt a lot where my bottom back and shoulder didnt at all. I do use numbin cream aswell that could make it less painful.
And asl ong as you avoid swimming pools for 2 weeks and follow the correct procedures you shouldnt have any after problems!!

Please make sure you go to a clean and hygienic studio and watch them change the needles and ink before they do anythin to you.

The OUCH factor depends on the body location of the tatoo. The ribs hurt ALOT!!! If you dont take care or if your the unlucky recipient of a lousy tatoo you can get an infection. I'm 30% covered and have NEVER had any infection problems. Good luck

I have some & I have never had a problem.
If you get them say on your arm etc were there is basically more flesh the dont bother you, but when you get them on your bone thats were they bug a little e.g neck, ankle, ribs etc. I have never seen one get infected so I would not know about that. They do cover them once they have been done & tell you a time limit of how long to keep it covered not to go swimming & to keep it out of the sun till it has healed & the scab has completely came off. & not to pick!
