They will be reluctant to tell you that the God they worship was not always God.
"We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea, and take away the veil, so that you may see." (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 345)

Revelation 1:8 "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty." Doesn't sound like a changing God, does it? According to the Mormons, God used to be like we are. According to the Bible, God never changes.

If Joseph was just talking out of his butt, pardon the expression. Then wasn't he leading the people astray, getting them to believe something that was false? How can the LDS say on one hand that the prophets are the mouthpiece of the Lord, the Lord won't let any prophet lead his people astray. Then on the next say well Joseph, Brigham or whom ever liked to speculate, we don't think of it as doctrine?
It sounds to me like a lot of the LDS prophets liked the sound of their own voices. They thought they knew it all and they didn't.
To answer your question,: The LDS seem to not want to talk those things to outsiders. I really don't know why. Unless your question is about how to get a Book of Mormon, the story of the Book of Mormon, Joseph's vision, etc. They seem to shy away from the complicated questions.

God is God. Whether He was God from time immorial, or whatever, He is God. He never changes.

What He was or might have been before He was our God, we don't know. Joseph Smith liked to speculate. That his speculations make sense does not mean taht this is somethign taht is official doctrine.

God was not always God. There, I said it. Guess I like to buck the supposed "trend" you are referring to?

Another non-question by the way.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Not The Mormon Church.

The cult of Mormonism/LDS is, indeed, disturbing.
