In Lewiston, ID, it's around $3.30/gal. i think it'll hit $4.00/gal by the end of summer. Really sucks, huh?
I'm riding my bike as much as I can, now.

There are plenty of other good reasons to get on a bike or walk than just the price of fuel. Registration, insurance, purchase price, maintenance costs, storage costs, depreciation. Repair costs if you have a bingle. Fines, parking costs, licencing.
Then there is the fact that by walking or cycling you get good exercise feel better and will probably live longer. Both are door to door. Then for every mile you don't drive there is about one pound less co2 emitted. Not to mention that both are a lot of fun.
It wasn't the price of fuel that got me interested in cycling (many years ago now). Once you start enjoying it you will wish you started years ago.
Welcome to the world of cycling.

I already bike to work (most days) ... 22 miles each way.
Even on the days I have to take the car (either because I'm dropping someone else off, or the weather is absolutely horrible), I manage to squeeze in a mid-day run of around 10 miles.
Not to mention the 12 miles a day my dog gets walked (half in the morning, half in the evening).

The problem is one of history. Since the 50's the government has encouraged suburbanization by funding highway after highway to the suburbs. Urban planners call it subsidized suburbanization. At the same time, they ignored inner cities and we saw almost no federal initiatives for public transit. This was fueled by cheap oil, a rising middle class and affordable cars. It should be no surprise that when oil gets expensive and the middle class is dwindling that this model causes huge strife for many Americans.

Illegals protest by the thousands...And what are we Americans doing ? Nothing...The workers of America could shut down the whole country just by a one day protest. Bikes are nice, but distance is often a problem.

Gadzooks! You guys are making me feel bad about complaining about our $2.65 price!!!
Yes, I have thought about riding my road bike to and from work but the area is too dangerous and it would take me about 2 and a half hours at 20mph... which would mean leaving home at 6:00am. NO thanks!
