I'm in the beginning stages of planning a destination wedding in the Caribbean. My finance and are I baffled as to which island would be the best for such an occasion. We are currently considering Bermuda, Anguilla, Antigua, Aruba, Barbados, St. Kitts, and the Turks and Caicos. These are options because we are familiar with the marriage license requirements, residency requirements, and all that other red tape plus thinks that they are all beautiful places for such a celebration.

We are looking for an island that is NOT "overly touristy" but at the same time we are looking for a place where there is at least a few activities to keep us busy (i.e. swimming, scuba diving, hiking, sites to see, some restaurants to check out. etc.)

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

My suggestion would be Aruba because it is ideal weather and is out of the hurricane belt...you don't mention the month, but it's a place where it hardly ever rains and a constant breezy with 82 degree temps. www.aruba.com I witnessed my first carribean wedding there back in Nov 2002 at the LaCabanna on Eagle Beach and it was beautiful and breath taking. Eagle Beach is much bigger than Palm Beach; there's more beach room and there's not a lot of tourists to disturb you. It's the "island where happiness lives" and why not begin your many years of happiness there. Aruba has scuba, swimming, windsurfing, hiking, horseback riding, golfing, casinos and nightlife. Oh and the steaks are out of this world-dine at either French Steakhouse & El Gaucho's (2 month reservation required-it's that good!) www.elgaucho-aruba.com ....another great place to dine on the beach for a romantic dinner would be flying fishbone. Small quaint, romantic sunset dinner literally on the beach! www.flyingfishbone.com Just some suggestions to help with your decision. www.aruba.com/specializedvacations/honeymoon.php Congrats and best of luck!

My dear the perfect place for a Caribbean wedding is of course JAMAICA! If you are looking for areas that is not filled with tourists we have some of the perfect places where you can go that is private and very romantic away from the crowded tourist spots. And in most resorts because we do have some very lovely resorts, there are more activities than the ones you listed. Let me give you a few: if you go to the east coast you can go rafting on the Rio Grande River or hike the Blue Mountain and along the way you can pick various fruits such as strawberries, mangoes you name it we have the best. You could also have a long boat ride on the Black River on the south coast, which is the longest river in Jamaica and it flows west opposite the other rivers on the island. Or you could go to the Y.S. Falls one of our many famous falls or to Lover's Leap or visit some of our beautiful caves. On the north coast we have the famous Dunn's River Falls, there is the Island Village where you can get alot of Jamaican memorabilia, these places are located in the wonderful garden parish of St. Ann's where the famous Bob Marley was born. You could visit one of our National Park - Fern Gully where there are over 200 different types of Ferns to see. On the west coast you have the haunted mansion of Annie Palmer also called the Witch of Rose Hall, there is also the famous Doctor's Cave beach that has clear turquoise waters. Most if not all our beaches have white sand and it is said of our people that we are warm and friendly and that is true. I forgot to mention our restaurants which, we have many from ones that serves you local dishes such as jerk pork and chickec to others that serves italian, french, japaneese to whatever you desire. I could go on and on but this would take forever. So if you are looking for a wonderful Caribbean Wedding and you would want to experience those few activities i have just mentioned and more, Just come to Jamaica and every little thing will be alright.
P.S You could probably get married at Golden Eye, Ian Fleming's home - the creator/writer of James Bond 007 and his adventures.

We were looking at doing that for awhile and Turks and Caicos caught my eye....and so did Antigua...

But we looked at Belize because they have some smaller more private places that are gorgeous and generally a little less then some of the other places...their laws are pretty much the same as all the others you've listed.

Go to yahoo travel and read the reviews they have excellent feedback...and usually they'll say if they did their wedding there too!

I know this is not on your list, but we are getting married 2/23 in St Thomas. The reason we chose the location is because no passports are required, which is good because of the 20 people coming, very few have one, or would really need one. Also, there is no residency requirement at all since it is part of the US-just the normal licensing (you mail it in a few weeks ahead and pick it up when you get there), and we're using islandweddingservices.com which will go to any location you specify! We booked our wedding with 3 emails (plus the license we will have to mail later)-the minister shows up with the photographer and champagne and flowers-very simple and inexpensive.
