I do and it is a concern. I am having them slowly replaced by composite fillings as they age and wear out.

Yes I have amalgam fillings.

No, I am not worried about the mercury.

Amalgam fillings have been in use for many years without problems and the levels of mercury are very small. Further, it is important to note that the act of drilling out amalgam fillings has very much more potential to release mercury than simply leaving them alone.

The amount of mercury in amalgam will do absolutely nothing to you. Composite fillings are more pleasing to the eye but they only last about 3 years before you have to have them replaced. Also, they are more expensive. So you can either have the amalgam and save money or get composites and keep giving money to your dentist.

Amalgam fillings are safe. If a dentist wants to switch them for composite resins, and there is no problems or recurrent decay, don't do it! Everytime you replace a filling, more of your natural tooth needs to be drilled away to clean out the space for the new filling to secure to. Other than looking bad, there is no reason to remove amalgams unless you have a new cavity forming around it!

I wouldn't worry about the amount of Mercury. Amalgam restorations are durable and last much longer than Composites (white). This is only my opinion, others may think different. Good luck.

Yes, I do have silver amalgam fillings.

The mercury has never bothered me though.

When my dentist switch to all composite fillings, he replaced most of my metal ones free of charge -- that really made me think more about the mercury issue - if the dentist was willing to PAY to replace them!

The only one left is in a tooth that needs a cap anyway - so that'll be gone soon.

Nope. All of my fillings are the kind that match my teeth. I chew foil just to make people with amalgams shudder

mercury? I have a few fillings with silver (I think anyway, unless it has been replaced with something else silver in color within the last 20 years) and my mother has silver fillings that didn't require root canals
