if you have access to a Jacuzzi that would be of great benefit. Massage therapy is also very effective. chiropractic care can greatly reduce the symptoms. Acupuncture can be of benefit. There's lots of different therapies you just have to keep trying until you find the one that works for the individual.
I've enclosed a link where you can find a chiropractor in your area.

I have RSD. There isn't a lot in the way of pain management itself anyone but the patient can take care of with the doctor's input. To be aware of what the individual cannot or should not do is a great help. Encourage the person to let you know those chores that increase pain. For myself, to have my husband & kids do little things without being asked helps the mental state tremendously.

As a physical therapist, I treated someone with RSD in the foot/ankle for 2 months with little success...I recommended to that person to try accupuncture and I recently heard back from that patient that the pain was almost gone! Accupuncture could be one option.

It helps to ask them what they think helps them; it can vary from person to person, but the most important part is that your support them, and try to supposed them emotionally. For me the pool helps my pain, but for some people it does not so it's important to ask them what they think helps them. For me I was alone much of the time, and had people who didn't believe that I had pain so at least believe that they are in pain and that they aren't whips. You may want to look into a Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) they seem to be very helpful, and are able to block a lot of my pain. You can get more information about SCS's at www.ans-medical.com Visiting them, and trying to hang out with them can also help; and let them know that if they are in too much pain that they shouldn't feel obligated to stay and hang around just because you aren't ready to go or something. Good luck!
