Because sometimes it needs to be corrected... like the other question I saw... it is supposed to be spelled hymn but it is spelled wrong... there is an e in the middle of m and n and the word is given a whole new meaning.

I typically only pick on the spelling of the question when the person asking the question is trying to insult the intelligence of someone else. I almost always answer the question though.

People with no wit usually can't spell worth a damn themselves. That aside, don't you think spelling and grammar are important? I'm not talking about a word here and there. I'm talking about gross misuse of the English language.
The postings on this sight make me cringe in horror.

Great,...just great....I do not have a reply for this and your spelling checks out.....
I think that most often that your stated assumption is the case.

To feel a bit better about themselves I would say. People who love correcting others are trying to make themselves feel less insecure I always think.

"argumentum ad hominem" (argument against the man.) I'm surprised because Wikipedia actually has a good article on this one!

No, it's because the invaders have quashed their native languages and the people who claim to care aren't doing anything to help restore it.

Sometimes, the question has been repeated so often, people no longer care to respond. Other times, if they cannot attack the idea, they attack they way it was presented.
