Definitely learn about other religions. It will help you to see and appreciate what is valuable in your own faith. For instance, when I studied Buddhism, they don't believe in a personal God. It helped me think about why believing that God is a person is so meaningful to me. When I learned about Judaism, I learned more about the roots of my Christian faith. It deepened my appreciation for the Lord's Supper, for instance. You may get "lost" or confused for a time, but you will definitely have a stronger faith when you get done.

On paper it is a great idea. Understanding world relgions and philosophies is beneficial and important. I would caution you, though, make sure you understand your own beliefs before you study the beliefs of others. If you have not taken a really good old testament survey I would do this first. Take some really good apologetics courses that deal with humanist philosophy. RC Sproul writes some great ones. Study the bible in its original languages. The problem with religious studies- they interpret christianity from a humanist perspective. That is OK, it is beneficial to you as an educated individual, as long as you really understand your faith from a Christian perspective. If you don't you could be led astray by what you are taught.

Short answer- don't hide from knowledege- but make sure you really understand your own faith and can defend it before you start on world religions and humanist philosophy.

To broaden your horizons and increase your understanding of the world around you can only do you good, and learning about other religions can also strengthen your own beliefs, and help you to understand your own religion better. If something in your studies causes you to question your beliefs, that is a sign of growth. Whether that growth should lead you "elsewhere", or strengthen your understanding in your spiritual path is up to you, how to use what you've learned. If Christianity is truly the correct path for you, then you have nothing to fear from being exposed to other's ideas...

I study religion and I'm a Christian. The important thing is to remember your faith, and sometimes your faith will even get stronger when you research other religions. I know the first one I studied was Mormons and LDS, and trust me, I am SO glad I'm a Christian. Go for it though. A lady at my church whom I'm really good friends with studied religion and theology and she is one of the most amazing Christians I know. If your still not sure, list some pro's and con's of studying religion. I hope that helps you!

Not only is it "okay," I think it's needed! Information is one of Christians' greatest tools! Read 1 Peter 3:15, I think you'll find it encouraging, and good reason to study not just Christianity, but also learn abut other religions as well.

There is nothing wrong with knowing other faiths. How else will you answer questions from your own faith? All faith overlap each other in own ways. If you want to know where you come from, history and knowledge is the best way. If you truley believe your faith then its nothing but knowledge. And there is never anythiing wrong with that.

Don't be afraid to learn about other religions, God wants you to be able to explore anything you want as long as it doesn't interfere with your love for him. And don't worry, He knows how really feel towards Him and he won't let you go astray.

Stand next to Jesus when you observe all other religions and get His opinion at all times. See it from His perspective. Keep the following handy for reference...

If you approach religion courses with an open mind it will change you. If you aren't afraid of that then go for it.
