Everyone always says "oh don't worry, you'll find someone, you'll find the right person, there's someone for everyone, it WILL happen", but they don't really know what will happen. There are plenty of people out there who never find the "right person" or anyone. So why do people always tell singles that they WILL find someone, let alone the right person? I think when people say stuff like this it should be taken as an insult.

Why is everyone assuming I'm asking about myself? I'm not single, I'm engaged. I bring this up because at work yesterday we have this young single guy and all the women were telling him "Oh, you'll find someone, there's someone for everyone" blah blah blah, and I was thinking "No, they don't know that, why do they tell people stuff that they have no way of knowing???" So I thought it's ridiculous and I asked my fiancee last night and she said it's ridiculous too, there are plenty of people who are single and happy and its offensive to make someone feel like they need to have someone.

I'm cracking up at some of you who answer by saying "Oh, it's a blow off, they're trying not to hurt your feelings" and other stuff about ME. LOL, you should read the question a little better next time, don't make assumptions.

I agree. I think we should rather find happiness being single. This society pushes people into relationships. I grew up thinking that without a mate I was somehow incomplete. Some of us can be perfectly happy without mates. If one does find a mate and wishes to marry or live together that is good too, but its more important to be able to make it alone. We all may be alone one day anyway.

Well its meant to be a sort of phrase of hope for you. Sometimes people just say that because it is an easy response when they really don't know what else to say.
Sometimes it really does happen that way..finding someone where or when you least expect. You just really don't know so its better to really not think about it and if it happens it happens, if it dosesn't it doesn't. I know I would much rather hear that then to have someone ask me why I am not married!

well there is someone for every1...i fell in love with two people at the same time..all hell broke loose but heck i wished all the qualities i was looking for was in ONE person..well guess what..couple of years later I found ONE with all the qualities I wanted..now call it lucky or just plain dumb luck but I was actually out there trying to find it..and I found it..now opening up my heart is another matter but I have found a perfect match for me..just want others who are feeling hopeless that we were there once and we found it..so there is HOPE that they will evenually find what they seek..

It's called being comforted and reassured. I'd take it as a compliment if I were you- if you lash out at the people who offer a hand and are nice when you are feeling down then you won't get any help in the future from them, as they won't bother if you take it that way (because being left alone seems to be what you want).

People aren't as bad as you make them out to be.

They may be tired of hearing you complain about something that is out of their control and don't want to go into the details of why they personally feel you don't have someone in order to spare your feelings (because it's prob nothing you would feel good about hearing, or it may be something that's out of your control) However, they are still trying to be nice and optimistic for you, but basically it's up to you to get out there.

we say that because of our experiences --- you would think an older single guy would not be able to find someone truly special --- yet i have and the circumstances and the person say that it should never have happened --- yet it did --- so open your mind --- someone is out there and you will find each other when you least expect it ---- best wishes

It's called lifting your spirits so that you can project an air of confidence rather than one of bitterness, pessimism or apathy.
