Hey, I am going on a cruise this summer. It is in the bahamas. I need suggestions on what would you think would be a packing list for a 12 year old girl. And if you guys can post some pictures of how they dress formally and casually on the ship. Oh and also what kind of ship would you prefer from Carnival.

The dress on ship is casual all day until 6:00PM when they request that you wear "sports casual" attire. That's attire that you would expect a person to wear in a business office, shirt with a collar, slacks, skirt, blouse, etc. You can still wear shorts and swim wear in the pools and spas but not in public areas like dining rooms and restaurants, show rooms, bars, casino, etc.

Most 7-day cruises have two formal nights when you can wear your best stuff and get pictures taken, and maybe meet the ship’s Captain. The formal nights are REQUESTED not required attire. But most people do dress up in a tux for men and a long dress (any color) for women. Some men just wear a suit and tie and some women wear a nice dress but not a gown. You will not be denied access to the dining room or anything else if you choose not to dress up. (we usually take off the formal stuff after dinner and pictures anyway).

For the Caribbean take sun screen, sun glasses, and plenty of changes of light summer clothes like shorts, under wear, "T" shirts, etc. Your 12 year old should wear whatever she would wear playing at home or at the beach.

Remember that space for luggage in your cabin will be limited. Your bags will generally have to be stored under your beds so take soft sided luggage.

Hi there, I went on a cruise to Europe in 2005. PACK LIGHT!!! You don't have a lot of closet space in your cabin. I kept most of my clothing in my suitcase except for my formal wear which I hung up. For the Bahamas I would suggest capris, shorts, tanks, etc. Dress comfy! =) For formal nights, on our cruise they dressed to the 9s...really nice formal gowns like they were going to a wedding. I felt very under dressed in my nice slacks and silk top. (which was dressing up for me lol) Your cruise may be different though as it is going to a more relaxed place. Europe is way different than the Bahamas. Check out the website below. I found it immensly helpful when I was packing for my cruise, also, they do have laundry facilities on most ships so you can do laundry on board on your at sea days. Have fun!!!
Edit: On our cruise several of us wore jeans to the dining rooms several nights and we weren't frowned upon, and we weren't the only ones in jeans.

For formal night a good rule is to wear what you would wear to a nice wedding. Every other night is sundresses, Cute tops and skirts or dress pants and blouses. no no's include jeans, t shirts with messages on them, shorts and cargo pants with huge pockets at dinner. For lunch or breakfast if you go to the formal dining room you just cant wear your swimming suit. Put on nice outfit in your carry on in case your regular suitcase doesn't get delivered to your cabin in time for your first dinner. Packing for daytime is alot like going to the beach. Have fun!
