My youngest just turned 18, so not as big an issue as it was. When I was actively checking it was about every two months. Some systems now (although controversial) now offer to call or email you when a new person is listed. The one profiled on the news was kind of joke because it was expensive given it's the same public database anyone has access to for free. But, if you're never online and really want to be aware, maybe it's a reasonable option? Yes, very disturbing to see the number of people listed -- although hopefully they’re not all violent habitual offenders. Fortunately the closest I have to my location is a little more then a half mile away, and looking at the photo, very old. Sure seems to be a lot out there though. Did have the odd experience about four years ago of checking the system and expanding the search to pretty much the whole town. Totally blown away to find an older man who I had known for years and attended my church. The date on the registry was more recent and near as I could tell the first offense (but perhaps only the first time caught). Pretty creepy. Kind of makes you want to keep your kids in sight at all times. Good luck in your neighborhood -- hope the ratio drops!

I would STRONGLY suggest: FamilyWatchDog.com. Not only does this sight give you info about predators in your area it will map out the area for you. It will allow you to view pictures of predators in your area. How far they are from schools and it also lets you know if any predators WORK in your area. It is user friendly and free. Family watch dog also tells you what there offenses were. John Walsh (from America's most wanted) is a supporter of this sight and I not only use it to check predators in my town, but towns where our families live. I have a 4 yr. old so I make it a point to check this site regularly. It is updated often. You can also talk to your local police department

Yes, Meganlaw.com and also your local county jail website has a site for sexual predators in your area, as well as the status of each, i.e., arrested, warrant issued, etc.

Yes, www.familywatchdog.us. This is by John Walsh, from "Americas Most Wanted', and it is a great website. It gives locations and usually employment of sex offenders, if registered, and how far away they live from parks and schools.

YOu can go to familywatchdog.com and type in your zip and it will give you a map of all of the predators in the area. You should be able to google registered sex offenders and your state and find a list.

go to your states Dept of Corrections website
I live in CT so I type CT Dept of Corrections and it pops up. There is always a link for the sex offender registry.

Yes.
We have the local official's webpages to look it up.
(Sheriff/State Patrol)

It'd be worth looking into before you move somewhere.
