I was thinking about getting an ipod and moving all my music that I have on Windows Media Player 11 over. But I read that an ipod won't accept it. What do I get so I can take my music with me?

a. Download itunes from www.apple.com
b) Start itunes on your PC, ignore all messages about the Store
c) Select "library"
d) Go on File -> Import Folder and navigate to the folder of your MP3 music (example: My Documents -> My Music"

iTunes will automatically add all your songs in that folder to your iTunes Library
(you can repeat the process with as many music folders as needed)
e) Now connect your ipod. After it is connected, drag and drop your Library music files to your ipod, and you are all set!

Even if you could, the media format of Media Player takes up a lot of room. You want to use MP3 type formats, not WMF. MP3 is a more compressed type of file, but widely used, and you will hardly ever notice any difference, except on voice with big speakers and a good system. Stick with MP3 on those little music players, no matter what model or make. More bang for the buck. Will sound fine on headphones or computer speakers.

Down with DRM :(. Yeah, if you purchased music with MS's DRM you cannot transfer it to Apple's sphere of content protection (such as an iPod or to iTunes) and vice versa. DRM is locked to the sphere of devices/software it was made by. If you have MS DRM'd music, you can transfer it to a Zune or anything that supports Windows Media Digital Rights Management. If you just added unrestricted music to WMP, then that is not DRM protected and can be played anywhere.

In the future, do not buy music that is DRM protected and you will not have this problem. You can buy unprotected music from allofmp3.com, and there are a few other places. Just make sure the music you buy clearly says it does not have DRM.

You can't use Windows Media Player 11 to sync songs to the iPod, but if you find where your songs are saved and import them to iTunes, you can. Also, I'm pretty sure if you enable disk access on the iPod, you can just drag and drop the songs.
