First, convince yourself that its better to make a fool of yourself than to be alone.
Second, watch what some other guy does or ask a friend with a girlfriend how he got his.
Try following their example (this probably won't work for you because its different for everyone but its worth a try)
Be yourself (I know this sounds cliche, but I'm shy too and I got a girl really fast and we've been going strong for 3 months so far =D yay!

You can try church or community activities.
Or some soul searching to figure out why you are so shy.
I used to be like that when I was younger, because I absoluetly hated to be rejected. However, I welcomed the feeling that I took a chance. I eventually was able to go up tofemales way out of my league, and then it's simple mathematics and probability. Not that I'm ugly, but I'm confident and for all the "no's" you hear you'll get some "yes's". Be strong bro!

Best place is volunteer at a zoo, museum, playhouse, find somewhere to volunteer...than you will meet other nice people and hopefully a mate...or you can go to a cosmetic area of a dept store and wait until you find an attractive female and tell her that you are shopping for your sister, and tell her you are embarrassed, but could she recommend a perfume fragrance...it also helps if you have something funny to say.

No need to be shy dude,....I mean women are humans too,....try being sincere with them,.....try being with women as honest and sincere as with the me (without being gay!!!) (in case you aren't:P ).....and you'll see that if you are frank with them, it'll be ok, ...and if it doesn't work out the way you planned, no need to worry, there are other fish in the sea, I mean it's impossible not to find somebody else to love or like the way you did the previous person.

Of couse. Start in a way that you can be anonomous for a while - i.e. Internet - then when you get to know someone a bit you won't be so shy.
