While I hesitate to put up an off-yahoo link, Cons just love to report anything they don't agree with for 'spam'. I think this one is worth it. It's one of the best despcriptions I've read about how religious groups use lies to foward their agenda.

Poor Michelle, you Christians are so victimized. Oh how you suffer! It's so clear to me now. Clearly all the gay people murdered every year by Christians, who use their religion as a defense, is justified. Puh.....lease!

Many people use lies to forward their agenda and this practice is not limited to professed 'Christians'. It is rather unfair to label all Christians as liars when the subject of homosexuality arises or any other hot button subject, for that matter.

True disciples of Christ do not involved themselves in the social and political agendas of this world. They remain strictly neutral regarding such affairs. They do not interfere with what others do – be those others religious groups, atheists or political groups. They concern themselves with the commandments of God and with trying to carry out the commission Christ gave them. Christ did not teach his followers to push forth political agendas to overcome the abusive power of the Roman authorities. He did not teach his followers to push forth a so-called 'Christian' agenda to deal with the apostate religious leaders of his day. He taught his disciples to be no part of the world just as John 17:16 reports. Neither Jesus nor his kingdom was any part of the world just as we read at John 18:36.

There are literally millions of Christian disciples of Jesus earth wide that advocate this same neutral position. When discussing homosexuality, or any other subject matter with respect to morality, they refer to God's word the Bible – just as Jesus himself did. John 17:17.

True Christians have no political agenda. They do not try to legislate morals, which is, quite frankly, an impossibility. Moral changes for good are made person by person and heart by heart, not election by election. And they cannot be legislated.

They think it makes them look holy and special to God. But, do these statements from Rev. Jerry Falwell and Rev. Pat Robertson show any degree of Godly love?

[homosexuals are] brute beasts...part of a vile and satanic system [that] will be utterly annihilated, and there will be a celebration in heaven." Jerry Falwell: Quoted in Jim Hill and Rand Cheadle, "The Bible Tells Me So", Anchor Books (1996), Pages 69-70

"Many of those people involved with Adolph Hitler were Satanists, many of them were homosexuals--the two things seem to go together."--Pat Robertson, "The 700 Club," 1/21/93

Heaven doesn't sound like it will be a very friendly place!

Homosexuality is a tough issue for Christians, especially those who take a literal approach to scripture. All of us, Christian and non-Christian, construct arguments to prove our perspectives. Some Christians lack the humility they need and may resort to "lies" or "half-truths" in making their point. They don't realize how offensive this is to the people they are attacking or think they are correcting.

I think though that the Christian community is presently facing some harsh realities and processing these tough questions as is our democratic and pluralistic culture in general, that has been greatly influenced by the church. Still, the church is called to love, and that goal is not always easily apprehended. Christians often have a hard time loving each other, much less those who either oppose them from the outside or who question their dogmas.

Anybody who hates homosexuals is off-base entirely. They are really distorting the message of the gospel and bringing a lot of offense. But I think, in my observation, that most churches do not have in place effective means of helping any group that gets marginalized in our culture. Some are trying to bridge these gaps. But we do not understand homosexuality, and sometimes it is easier just to try to bar the doors or try to use government as a means of creating apartheid.

It's a tough adjustment and people are often stupid no matter where they are coming from. But it is not enough to try to get them off the hook by appealing to sincerity.

I don't think the church will ever easily accept the practice of homosexuality into its domain. But the conundrum we face is how to love the homosexual and treat them respectfully while we hold to what we interpret as biblical principles. Is our goal to doctor these people into a lifestyle they either can't accept or seem unable to live out? Or is it to embrace and encourage them to seek to live good lives as best they can? To me, we are all in that boat together.

In the civil arena of politics, we live in a democracy and not a theocracy. I don't expect anti-gay Christians to win in that area because our system relates to the Constitution not to church authority. Many Christians seem to wish the state was theirs again, that they could create a perfect world, like many Muslims envision. But theocracy has failed in the past and is feared as our future.

Whatever is true about anything will win out eventually. But the church, in many areas, must adjust its image in the public eye. That will take humility, something we are all short on. The Bible is a powerful instrument and can be used for good and for evil. If it is ever being used to destroy any people, that is a great shame and very sad.

Take heart, though, friend, there is a debate going on. Christians must pray and face this issue honestly. It is leading somewhere, hopefully to clarification and ultimate triumph over "lies", wherever they are coming from.

You are too narrow-minded with your "liberal" self to understand what is really being said. You want to concentrate on hateful people who have an agenda and use Religion as their tool. They are devil-inspired, not us.

We are told in the Old and New Testament that God is a holy God and will not abide with sin. Instructions were given to man to understand what God considers sin. If a person becomes a Christian and of their own free will decide that the Word of God is correct, they believe what is written in the books. If the information states that "it is an abomination for men to lie with men as they do with women vice versa, or that nothing immoral will enter His Kingdom, then this is what we believe.

We do not or are not suppose to attack, hate, spurn, reject any individual person because that is not our place to judge. We are to tell the gospel whether is it popular or not.

If you want to believe that every person (who claims to be a Christian) who attacks or kills a person with homosexual tendencies is representative of those who follow Christ, then that is your prerogative. But it simply is not true.

Perhaps a better question would be: Why do the most vocal, insipid anti-Christians display such a marked tendency to over-generalize, particularly with respect to Christians, and how did it become somehow "acceptable" to discriminate against them in the USA?

Hopefully, for every Christian who succumbs to the pressures of "political correctness" by watering down their faith to avoid "offending" the anti-Christians, there will be 10 more who REFUSE to do so.

If you find the Christian stance on homosexuality offensive, so be it. Truth is truth. The truth that homosexual acts are sinful will remain. Just becuase you happen to find something "offensive" does not change the reailty.

Anti-Christians can attempt to victimize, offend, discredit, and attack Christians until the day they die, and the outcome will be the same.

The battle has been won. It was over when Jesus rose from the dead. The only question remaining is: whom will YOU serve?

Because they hate homosexuality and those same urges they feel within themselves.
You don't see them getting this worked up about violence in familes, neglect, or poverty.
Only homosexuality makes them this crazy, and it's clear why that happens.
Nice link, btw.
