About 99% of the remotes out there are infared.. which means the remote has to "see" the IR reciever on the TV. This is also only a one-way communication on nearly all devices, as the remote doesn't have a IR sensor.. only sender. The remote would have to use RF or Bluetooth signals to talk back and forth. Most of the time when you lose a remote it's not pointing at the TV, hence why IR would not work!

You can buy individual transmitters and receivers from Sharper Image and you can stick them to your remote.
I think Philips had a TV model with remote finder in the past. So the idea is not new.
The main problem is battery life. Your phone has a base station and a rechargable battery, so in most cases it is fully charged and most of the time is in the "dock" station.
The problem with a "finder" is that the receiver on the remote needs to be always on (so it can respond to a 'search" request), which drains the batteries very quickly. You also need to have both IR and RF transmitters/receivers, which adds to the cost. Adding a doc for the remote would add to the overall cost. So at the end of the day, it is all about cost, and the feature is seldomly implemented.

There are third party products on the market that you can attach to remotes, keyrings, etc. I know someone who has one (not sure of the brand) that has a base with 4 colored buttons, and 4 related devices are attached to the various remotes & keys. You press a button for the thing you want, and the remote makes a noise so you can find it.
You can find these kinds of things by doing a Yahoo search--for instance, search on: remote locator keys

Nah, merely great glue it to the espresso table. That way, that is under no circumstances a thoughts away, and, until eventually you could lose the espresso table down the side of the sofa cushions, you'll under no circumstances lose the distant..!!

There was a Television at one time that had that feature. I don't remember what brand it was, but they only made one model like that and I guess it didn't catch on because no one has made another one like it.
