its like asking whats the difference between baptists and cathlics there both christain, they take a different view on the word of God and believe that. Monty Python have done a good example of this branch out in 'Life of Brain" When they chase the 'messiah' Brian and he drops his orb one group day they should worship the orb but then another group find a shoe he droped and say they should walk around with one shoe. One group follow the orb another follows the shoe as its thier beliefe.
Hope this helped you

Hi
You say they are both Christianity but that is not strictly true.
You can be an orthodox christian, or an orthodox jew, or even an orthodox muslim - orthodox means you stick to the old ways quite rigidly.
Orthodox chrisitans tend to interpret the bible literally - so it took an actual seven days to make a world - while language historians know that people spoke that way and it means 'seven periods' or 'seven steps'.
The main difference is that orthodoxy stops people progressing the ideas to meet up with the new world.

They are both Christian sects, and emanate from the remnants of the western (Rome) and eastern (Constantinople) Roman empires. The schism between the two churches occurred in the 11th Century

Orthodox do not recognize the Pope and they separated from the Catholic church because of their different beliefs about who the Holy Spirit came from, Father or Father and Son.
