my son broke his last Christmas break at age 13. It depends on the break I guess. An ears nose and throat specialist did his surgery. It was done as outpatient, fully anesthesised. He said it wasnt so bad except that after surgery you have nose splints shoved way up in your sinuses both sides, to hold the nose in place. the may have to re -break it if it begins to heal before he can get into surgery. Those cause him some pain. After 2 days they naturally just fall out on their own. After they were gone, he never took another pain pill, and was back at school in about 4 days. The ears nose throat Drs do well , they know all about re -aligning the nose straight just as a plastic surgeon would. I think insurance companies they recommend ears nose throat drs over plastic surgeons for cost reasons.. but dont worry, it should turn out great.

I broke my nose in a car accident when I was 7. (I am now 29). They set my break and let me be. They thought was going to maybe need plastic surgery when I got older but it healed fine. I do not have a crooked nose. All you can do is let the doctors set the break if they feel it needs to be set and see how it heals itself. If it does end up crooked you can always have plastic surgery done later if you think it is necessary.

I broke my nose when I was 8 years old, they go in and see how badly it is broke. In my case they did reconstructive surgery. It was a day surgery. Make sure he doesnt pick his nose after th surgery if he needs to have it. They put special stictches inside to help set the bones in place and if he picks he may disturb the stitches.
Gross I know but it could really mess it up if he does this. Other than this the other option is they may choose to wait as his bones may be in a growth cycle in which they will do it later and he will get to pick a nose out of a magazine. (I know this sounds weird but its true) and they will remodel his nose like cosmetic surgery, put it will not be cosmetic surgery.
Hope this helps.

My daughter broke her nose when she was 5,quite often no treatment is offered because noses tend to heal well on their own.Having said this,I wish I had been more assertive with the doctors. She had a cute but rather flat nose for most of her childhood but as a teenager developed a pronounced hump on her nose! She also has sinus problems now.If you aren't happy with the treatment offered insist on a second opinion.
