I ate 3 meals of cereal today. (fiber dense). once with soy milk and twice with fat free plain yogurt. each meal is about 300 calories.(that includes 3 fruits). And this morning I weight half pound more.

Can I gain weight by eating cereal?

Note: that is all I ate today. nothing else~. I am 5'7 22 years old

that's a pretty unhealthy thing to do. Is this going to be your new diet because I would advise you not to. As they say a balanced diet is more healthy. I would only use it for one meal a day and that would be for breakfast.

I'm sorry, did you say 1/2 of a pound? Are you serious? if you wanna gain weight the best way, replace 3 meals a day with 6 trips to McDonalds a day. My God kiddo, I lose more then 5 pounds in a nice long sit on the toilet, I don't think 1/2 pound is anything to get excited about.

Absolutely not. Any weight gain you saw was not real, but the increased contents of your bowels showing up as "extra weight". I guarantee you that unless you are the slowest metabolizing, most sedentary human being on the planet, 900 calories a day will make you lose weight, not gain.

To gain a pound you need to consume 3,500 calories more than you burn off. At the rate and intake you describe, you have an excellent weight loss plan worked out. As a strict diet to lose, your plan would be the envy of many.

You know this, right?

Yes. Cereals have a high sugar content and not very nutritional when you are replacing 3 meals aday. Your body starts to protect itself from starvation. It will hold on to however little fat you have, and it will turn the sugars into something you dont want more weight. I recommend eating smaller meals high in fiber and low in fat and carbs. If you trick your body into thinking it is being fed on a regular basis and keeping "fuel" the nutrients you need in inside you are more likely to lose more weight than cutting out your meals all together. Be sure to drink 8-10 glasses of water a day or fluids not high in sugar or caffeine. Remember you need only 3 ounces of protein a day, and cut down on breads and cereals they are high in carbs. Your plate should be 3/4 veggies or salads not fried veggies either. Best of luck.
