It shouldn't hurt for too long, I've had two teeth extracted and they stopped hurting the same day. The bleeding usually stops within a couple of hours.

For the first extraction, I ignored the dentists advice and smoked. The socket got infected and I had to go back to the dentist and have all the pus (which tasted foul) sucked out, and then had it packed with clove soaked rags. The hole still hasn't healed totally and I have to be careful that it doesn't get infected. When it got infected it felt like my whole head was on fire and it pulsated with incredible pain.

For the second extraction, I didn't smoke for the full 10 days afterwards, and it didn't get infected. It hurt much less and healed 10x quicker.

Please try not to smoke, it really can make it much worse.

It should only take a half hour for the bleeding to subside. There might be a tiny bit of oozing for a day or so, but usually a lot of saliva mixed with a tiny bit of blood can taste and look a whole lot worse than it is. Be more concerned if you are experiencing severe pain inside of the first 72 hours after extraction. you are more prone as a smoker to developing something called a dry socket. It's where the blood clot from the socket is lost, exposing the bone which can be very painful. see your dentist if this happens.
Please don't avoid eating for 12 hours after an extraction!! that is poor advice. Just avoid eating on that sideif you can. If you can't avoid eating on that side, try soft but nutritional foods like yoghurt or scrambled eggs.

Less than a day to stop, 3 or 4 to heal. Rinse with salt water, keep hole clean, do not smoke.

TOOTH EXTRACTION HAS BECOME LESS PAINFUL THESE DAYS. I WONT SAY IT DEOS NOT PAIN , BUT ITS NOT THAT BAD EITHER.
THE BLOOD STOPS AFTER 2/3 HOURS. IT IS ADVISABLE THAT YOU DO NOT EAT FOR ATLEAST 12 HOURS AFTER EXTRACTION OF TOOTH.
YOU CAN RETURN TO NORMAL ROUTINE ON THE VERY NEXT DAY.
