There's no time limit........you could "fall off the wagon' in a year or 5 years. You just have to convince yourself that you hate the smell on your clothes etc. etc.

Safe in what way? Like your lungs have returned to normal or safe from temptation?

I quit on Jan. 1 and I still get cravings, even tho I smoked only about 6 cigs a day. And they hit at the weirdest times!

I know my lungs are better because I was able to swim a certain distance twithout taking a breath, which I wasn't able to do before.

At least 10 years. It depends on how young you were when you quit (the younger you are the easier it is for your body to repair itself) and how long you smoked, as well as how heavily. If you smoked for 40 years your lungs will never truly return to their pre-smoking state. Just keep taking it one day at a time and you'll see improvement, huge improvements.

10 years, I'm not kidding .. it takes that much time to get all of the stuff from the smoking out of your body. i had a friend of mine who quit smoking about 15 years ago and he still feels like he needs a cigarette every now and then. its a mental and physical need also.
