A question is posted about a Jehovah's Witness saying something about Jesus having free will. Responses are posted saying basically don't listen to anything a JW says. They are a cult and teach only false beliefs.

So, does this mean that they are wrong that Jesus had free will and that he was really just a puppet or automaton of his Father? Or, did these people just close their minds as soon as they say the words Jehovah's Witness and not read any further?

I assume from many of the answers given below, that many agree that JWs are automatically wrong in everything and Jesus did not have free will.

Many people just close their mind off as soon as Jehovah's Witnesses are mentioned. Some prefer to listen to what other people say about our beliefs than finding out what we actually believe from us.
I mean you wouldn't go to a dentist to find out about which car to buy would you? That's why there's so much misinformation about our beliefs.
This is Satan's system so we expect this but he won't stop honest hearted ones from seeking the truth.
Anyone that sincerely wants to know the truth will find it.

You know when you have a true witness and a true Gospel people don't shut down.

Jehovah Witness present LOGIC as their main witness and not truth and not God's Word.

It has to be a JW's Bible, Translation, Thought, Tract and Magazine presented. Then JW's tie it in with LOGIC and a person is ILLOGICAL if they don't believe. Plus a little name calling. KIND LIKE what you did in your question.

ONE thing about TRUTH it does not need LOGIC behind it to make it more TRUTHFUL.

Don't expect to be picked for a best answer since you are a Jehovah's Witness yourself.

I used to be a JW, but I am not one anymore. I still have some respect for them in some matters so I think I'll have a slightly different perspective for you. I think the reason most people think so poorly of JWs is because those same people are too dogmatic and selfish to listen to a dissenting viewpoint. Very few of them stop and examine the logic of their own beliefs (or lack thereof). After all, what makes any religion worth believing?

even as the JW might want to be commendable of their zeal for evangelizing, their employer seems 1800 years too previous due and could for that reason be suspect because the real faith. to boot to being 1800 years too previous due, they don't percentage dissimilar the beliefs of the Early Church along with the real Presence, the divinity of Christ, and others. The JW employer develop into not round in the course of the compilation of the Bible contained in the 400s and lacks the training authority Christ surpassed on to His Church by Apostolic Authority. The hyperlinks decrease than provide dissimilar training on the gang and communicate about a number of awesome topics of the JW beliefs.

Perhaps it is the knowledge that Jehovah's Witnesses have such closed minds themselves; that they believe every other religion on the face of the planet is false, that they and only they have the "truth" and that anyone who is not a Jehovah's Witness will die at Armageddon.

So what's your point. Some don't want to deal with Jehovah Witnesses and others don't want to deal with Mormons and others...etc. Some don't want to deal with any religious type.

Personally I like talking with Jehovah Witnesses. They can really clock a lot of time talking to me which is good for the report they turn on their monthly activity :)

I often wonder why some of them look surprised when I mention their activity reports they have to turn in. None ever denied, but they look so surprised. interesting

Where people's minds tend to close down is at the "Jehovah" part. It really shows that there is a seperating work under way. They are showing that it is not just Jehovah's Witnesses they dont agree with but Jehovah himself.

I can see from many of the answers here that confusion is part of the problem. People confuse some of our beliefs with those of other religions. Perhaps it would be good to take the time, at least, to learn what Witnesses actually believe and teach.

Our situation is similar to that of early Christianity. In Acts 28:22 (ESV) the Jewish elders say to the apostle Paul, who had been preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, "But we desire to hear from you what your views are, for with regard to this sect, we know that everywhere it is spoken against."

"This sect" was what the Jewish leaders called Christianity. It did not agree with their beliefs, and it was widely spoken against at that time.

After Paul spoke, the account goes on to say, "And some were convinced by what he said, but others disbelieved." (Acts 18:24, ESV)

So today, some people accept the message that Jehovah's Witnesses bring, others are not convinced by it. But Paul's Gospel was not false because some people rejected it, and the same can be said of the teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses.

It's a defensive mechanism, people don't like being told they are wrong, esp about religion and their immortal souls, which is what the JW's seem to be doing. Of course I have to admit I've never exactly invited one in for a cuppa myself.

Sorry, I thought "What is it about the words "Jehovah's Witness" that causes people's minds to close down?" was your question, not "was he really just a puppet or automaton of his Father?" My mistake.

You know what? I don't like going to your doors. I haven't liked it since 1970 when I started. I am shy and have low self esteem. Telling you that the end is near just isn't my thing.

But if you ask me if it gets results. Yes ! and the ones we reach thank us again and again. I myself, was so grateful to finally know the truth about the bible that I begged for 2 studies a week and the woman lived 37 miles from my house.
My husband had his own study and they faithfully came to him too. They faithfully came for a year and a half until we were baptized. That was loving. My husband wasn't always receptive. He resented them coming for a while as it interfered with his lunch. He would tell me, "If you don't get rid of those *od *amned people I will blow them away. He mellowed out and is a God fearing man .

If we wish to please God, not man, we do as he says. Why? Because some out there are still worthy of living forever and until they are found by us canvassing your area the end will not come.

So do what you have to do and we will too. Pretty soon you won't be bothered by us any longer...you'll have to deal with Jesus and his army of invisible warriors who will not put up with your foolishness.

But one more note to you...yes you...do not mock God.
He means business and he wants you to survive. Work with him to save your life. Please humble yourselves under the mighty hand of Jehovah.
