there is no "Rapeseed" oil. "Rapeseed" oil is canola oil. it comes from the rapeseed plant. Named canola oil because nobody would want to buy an oil called "Rapeseed" oil, and it first came from Canada. if for frying, then you want to concern yourself with smoke points and flavor. your best alternative would be grapeseed oil, and a fair substitute would be vegetable oil. these two would also work for baking.

Though rapeseed oil may only be made available under the Canola branding in the US, in the UK, where you say you need to find it, it's on your supermarket shelves (Morrisons have it, Waitrose, Tesco, larger Somerfields, etc.) plainly marked "rapeseed oil", often in both standard and organic 'editions', for you to make your choice. There are a number of super-high quality small producers in the Midlands and Home Counties, producing a highly specialised rapeseed oil product for professional kitchens too.

So, the good news is that you'll not need to make a substitution at all... :-)

All the best.

The most natural and healthy diet for humans is an omnivorous diet, and not a plant based diet, or a meat-based diet per se. The Paleo Diet can be very widely varied and omnivorous for the most part, but the most important thing is that it’s unprocessed, and avoids the worst foods that agriculture brought mankind… refined inflammatory vegetable oils, refined grains (some are worse than others), and sugar! As you can see, the benefits of adopting a Paleo way of eating can be incredible! I’ve been eating 95% Paleo for the last 5-6 years and I’ve never felt better. I have dozens of friends that have adopted a more Paleo way of eating too, and have seen all sorts of health problems disappear, including eliminating acne and other skin problems, digestion problems, improving brain clarity, and of course, losing a lot of body fat!

Actually can I just clarify that Canola oil is NOT rapeseed oil, it is the same plant originally, but genetically designed to be lower in Erucitic acid; thats why it's called Canola (It its a mixture of the words CANada, Oil, Low, Acid.

As for what to substitute it for, not too sure why you would as its one of the best kinds of oil, but if you are not too fond of rapeseed, then sunflower oil will work as well, although will be higher in acid, as well as LDL cholesterol

Nearly all vegetable oil sold in the UK is rapeseed or "canola" oil (and about a quarter of the price of bottles that say "rapeseed"), which isn't genetically modified, just have a look at the label on the back of the bottle.

Modern rapeseed is a "cultivar" of the original, meaning it was bred, not genetically modified.
