I don't know. I too am atheist but I am happy to discuss other people's beliefs with them without a)belittling their beliefs and b)thrusting my beliefs upon them. I guess those that believe in God are often incapable of achieving this, so it is easier for them to avoid the discussion all together. Either that or you scare them :P

No idea - I know and am related to several avowed atheists and it really isn't a subject that really comes up. I don't care myself - I am sort of an agnostic personally. People do get all bent out of shape about it though. You got me.

Although the uber religious "christian" mindset can be frightening, so maybe avoiding it as a topic of light conversation is for the best. The girl ranting here about Christmas trees is a good example. Christmas trees have nothing to do with religion - decorated pine trees not being all that common in the biblical desert and all.

As a Christian, I don't have a big deal with it, but I would change to subject away from religion because I doubt you would come around to my way of thinking, and I can't come around to your way of thinking, so, while I'd be willing to discuss it, it seems rather a moot subject. Better to move on to something else where we could find a common ground to stand on. Not baseball, though; don't like baseball. Or most sports for that matter. Except football, maybe, and that only a little bit. Games. Difinitely games. Comics, music, movies. Not religion and not sports.

If it actually were a big deal, I'm sure they would do a lot more than just change the subject. I'd rather somebody do that than criticize or try to debate with me on our differences of opinion.

If they choose to shun you based on that opinion, then it's a different story. In which case it just reflects badly on them for being ignorant and close-minded and you shouldn't let it bother you. As long as you're happy and doing what works for you.

Some people are just uncomfortable when others think or feel different. More so when it comes to religion. There is nothing wrong with atheists if that is what they choose to be.

I was born catholic but I have expounded to a bigger truth. I know my parents are devastated. But I try not to discuss my beliefs unless they ask me. I will speak my truth. But will not be a bible beater.

To each is own. I believe people will find their own truth in time.

because they're the "racists" of our age, and Christians can't examine their own Bible. to some human beings that is a large deal because they don't pick to make sure you burn contained in the flames of Hell for all eternity. I advise, in case you talked about someone about to leap right into a bonfire, distinctly if it develop into someone you knew/cared about, would not you attempt to end them? only a concept. So I sympathize with them to a level. yet Christianity is between the purely religions who takes each and every note contained in the e book heavily, even those who were legends and myths instructed for leisure and training purposes that not in any respect truly occurred. Take Adam and Eve operating example....nuff reported.

Hehe, most people of your profession would say, "Once people hear I am an Atheist they mock me and shove religion down my throats". Well I think many people do not want to discuss religion with an Atheist because we think you will just mock religion. Consider the Flying Spaghetti Monster - horrible mockery of religion. For myself I don't mind discussing religion with an Atheist, or any religious association, so long as we remain respectful, and I am not very interested in polemic arguments "my God is better than your God, I am smarter than you" stuff.

Mostly, Christians just feel sorry for the fact that you have no faith. I also think its the athiests that are trying to impede on the Christian lifestyle, not the other way around, we are sick that you got prayer out of schools, and we are sick that you wanted God taken out the pledge, we are sick that you separated the church from the state, we were sick when the stores wouldnt even sell Christmas trees. (You shouldnt celebrate it, it's our freaking holiday) Christians dont really care what you believe, we just dont want to associate with people who dont have the same belief system. We change the subject because you have your right to your beliefs and so do we, there is nothing else to talk about.

its not a big deal...when sumbody asks about religion, they mean/pertain to GOD, when they know that you're an atheist, of course they will drop the subject...what is there to talk about with you....you dont have a GOD.

take it easy on urself ...

Its unnatural. 99% of all people are theist. For someone to say they believe in nothing is quite frankly shocking. I would react the same way for I WANT EVERY SOUL TO FIND CHRIST. And most likely if I try to convert you, you would probably get pissed off and offended.

Best change the subject and let bigons be bigons
