While some may see it as suicide if someone chooses to die when they could have did something to prevent it, much depends on the situation.
Suppose someone told you to murder someone or they would kill you? Would you to it to save your own life?
When one gives their life so that others may live, it is called a sacrifice, not a suicide. When a gunman killed the Amish children, the oldest girl offered her life in hopes that it would satisfy the need for blood for this person and that he would allow the others to live.
Others have given their life so that we could be free.
Most important, one gave His life so that we can all be free from the penalty of sin and be given eternal life. Read the link below.

It amounts to the same thing, but in certain situations people will usually refer to it euphemistically as a self-sacrifice or some other such term. Personally, I don't see what the big deal is. In some cases, I believe suicide is a viable option, i.e. incurable illnesses that will likely result in long protracted suffering.

The suicide myth is a tragic tale as told by religion. However, remembrance is what I crave! If I had to sacrifice myself to save some save-worthy humans then that is cool. To die because x and y don't like me is a tragic tale.

No.
Catholics believe suicide (the murder of yourself) when committed in full knowledge and deliberate consent is a complete turning away from God (a mortal sin) and will send a person to hell.
No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. (John 15:13)
A parent that sacrifices himself or herself to save their child's life is choosing death over life but is not committing suicide.
A soldier who accepts a "suicide" mission to help win a war and protect the citizens of his country is choosing death over life but is not committing suicide.
A Christian who chooses to remain faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and be put to death instead of renouncing his or her faith and living is choosing death over life but is not committing suicide.
Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. (Matthew 10:39)
With love in Christ.
