ok so im confused. im not mr. fashion and i cant really tell the difference between a tux and a suit. what do dudes ware to prom a tux or a suit?

a tux ! and bring your date's dress to the tux rental place and the sales associate will be able to find a nice matching/complimenting cummerbund/vest !

Go with a tux, and try to get a tie and vest that will match your dates dress, if at all possible. Usually you can rent a tux at a gown and bridal store. They usually have different styles and colors you can choose from, but black is usually the more traditional color. They will also be willing to give you advice on whats the latest fashion.

Traditionally, wear a tux. Go to a tux rental shop and they will fix you up with every ting from top to bottom. Then, don't forget to get your date a corsage. Go to a florist just before you pick up your date and get the corsage. Pick up the corsage the morning or afternoon before the prom, then put it in the refrigerator until it's time to pick her up. Give her the corsage at the time you pick her up ...this is great for making points with her mom and dad. Have a great time.

it's 'wear', not 'ware'
and it depends on how formal it is
doesn't your school arrange something?
a tux would be good for a presentation ball
but if it's just like a 'cocktail' party sorta thing
then a suit works.
tuxes are the ones that have the tails and stuff, aren't they?
ask at the suit hire/buying shop
