Evidentally it is not being made anymore or at least not sold in the US. We need it.

It is true that Velvia 50ASA was discontinued a couple of years ago. This was said to be due to problems with one of the chemicals used in manufacture. However, Fuji have announced that they have been able to overcome that problem by using another and are to/have recently reintroduced the film. It doesn't yet seem to be available here in the UK yet, however. The Fujifilm USA page states 'it will begin shipping in the summer of 2007' (http://www.fujifilmusa.com/JSP/fuji/epartners/proPhotoProductVelvia.jsp)

Yep, slide film is, unfortunately, quite expensive. It's worth it though. My personal all-time favorite slide film for landscape is Velvia 50. (I use Velvia for the desert, it might be a little too cool in color cast for Hawaii. Kodak film tends to be a touch warmer. ) I know it is pricey but you should really try a roll of each before you go and decide which one you like better. Film choice is really a very personal matter.

As a photographer here in Japan I can say that it is not hard to find that film and use it for my Hasselblad on occasion. In Japan you can get this film at Bic camera or Kitamura camera. As for price, it is about the same as the US, although I have found it cheaper here from time to time. As for places that sell it online, no clue really.
