I have no problem with sleeping in a cemetary. In fact I would think it would be kind of cool if it were allowed. The reason why is I used to work at cemetary as a temporary in their Accounting department. It creeped me out a little bit at first, but then I used to go around the cemetary sometimes and read the headstones and think about the families who's loved one had passed away. And I would think about all of the angels that must be present at the cemetary ready and waiting to comfort people who came there to mourn. So actually, I wound up thinking that the cemetary was one the most beautiful places on earth. Full of God's love and mercy and the presence of many angels.
There may be some mystical beliefs about it that I don't know about, but generally, there's nothing prohibiting it for Christians. It does say not to touch a dead body, but that's in the context of being made ceremonially unclean for temple sacrifices, bodies after death can easily harbor germs.

I can explain some of the early mythology regarding some parts of things that you don't want to meet sleeping in a cemetary.
Vampires- In earlier days, people were buried quickly after death, and sometimes they weren't even dead when they were buried. Some of these people would claw their way out and appear to be the living dead. As a result of digging out they'd often be bloody, and people believing they'd rose from the dead believed this was from feeding on people, and oftent he poor soul would have a steak driven through their heart to kill them... which is really effective on anyone, not just vampires. Zombie legends likely arose under similar circumstances.
Spirits: There are hundreds of tales of vengeful spirits who haunt graveyards, who are believed to attack the living. There are a number of urban legends surrounding teens who sleep in a graveyard and their peers find them dead in the morning.
Beliefs regarding cemetaries in general is holding your breath while passing a cemetary will prevent bad luck from befalling you. There are also little good luck rituals which I can't remember.
Hope that helps.

I'm not sure about the cultural side of it per se,
but I'm pretty sure it is a standardized graveyard policy
to "close" at sundown.
So technically, you just *can't* sleep in a cemetary.
And during the day there are "No Loiterings" laws
being enforced.
This is all just the government trying to keep
vampire-human interaction under wraps.

I'm a Pagan and I've done it. If you can find a crypt to sleep in it's a little more comfortable. I'd advise you to bring at least two blankets, one to sleep on and one to sleep under. Certain events make it o.k., like being homeless, that's usually a good incentive.

As long as the local cops don't give you a hard time about it, there shouldn't be a problem legally.
As long as you don't desecrate/vandalize the area, should be okay morally.
Religiously? Knock yourself out. There's a tradition of "sitting on the mound" to commune with the spirits of the dead. You might want to have something to offer to the dead in exchange for a vision, but there's certainly nothing wrong with it.

that is scary...i believe in spirits, negative and positive energy! so cemeteries scare me! i am catholic (not practicing) but have felt an seen some strange things(but not at a cemetary). I don' t think that there are rules against it, unless there is something I haven't been told?? but I wouldn't want to. some people could do it i believe we all have different awareness levels.
but seriously there is no rule against it and if you want to sleep in one it is probably a safe place! ;0)

I don't see any problems with it, and it is a good scare for the younger group, which can be a lot of fun. I mean, a lot of people had the whole 'betcha can't spend the night in the cemetary' dare as kids...
I was one of them, and I passed!!!

I was raised Catholic, and I do not know of any rules against sleeping in a cemetery. This could, however, cause some social disruption.

Why would you want to sleep in a cemetery? Most cemeteries are closed by 5 pm because of vandalism and theft and have night watchmen
