It is a money scam. If you are dumb enough to believe in fairy tales, you might also be dumb enough to fall for a scam.

There is a reason why you see those advertisements in off-peak times (i.e. afternoon and late night) because that is the cheapest time to run ads. They have to advertise as a reminder and to make more people out there aware of the problem so that they could get more donations.
You'd have to admit, if the average person never was to see those ads on TV, they'd never ever give those starving children a thought and therefore never consider a donation.
BTW, i used to work in media... many of those charity ads are given a huge discount or no payment at all. It is aired as a donation.
oh, i'm not Christian either so i'm not defending or justifying whatever they do in these charities. Just giving an opinion and sharing what i know.

A church or any organization recieve a huge discount for helping in a caused...so let's say a church pays $100.000 for a few thirty seconds of air time.
The possiblity of that church making much more is great, due to the large amount of people possibly viewing that station, so with faith and money invested, people have a chance all involved benefit for the glory of God.

TV isn't free, baby, but it gets the job done. American Idol isn't a church, but they spread their wealth to starving children by asking for money to help do it. Have you ever contributed beings you're playing the blame game?

The deal with "Christian Churches" doing those commercials is basically this:
You give them their money, they give SOME of it to the kids, but also use some of it to transport themselves there and start a-convertin'. It's been happening for centuries--third world nations are 'fresh blood' when it comes to getting more people to join "the Church."
There's always a 'catch' when dealing with that sort of 'charity.' Here's another example: in some cases, the Salvation Army refused to give money to some victims of Hurricane Katrina, just for being gay. How messed up is that?
There are plenty of non-religious charities out there to donate money to--I strongly advise you go through one of them to make sure your money goes to what you intend it to go to.

When it comes to helping those in need, everyone is needed. It does not matter about their religion.
As for t.v. programs, I guess it is a valuable means of getting a great mass of people to do great things for the less fortunate.
If somebody wants to make a living schamming people and lying to the public, God will deal with them. And if I suspect them of doing so, I would not contribute to their cause according to the dictate of my conscience. I would have to look for another avenue or instrument.

Maybe this is thier way to show up and to claim that they are good people.
If this is true, so helping poor children is a means not the goal.

People who beg for money are not from God. Nevertheless, God commands us to give to the poor.
So give to the poor. But choose our own. I have chosen a shelter for abused women and children.
