I am going to join the Navy of the Air force by the beginning of the next year. I was wondering what did you do on a daily basis in Basic Training (AF and Navy) i.e. pt everyday? Did you have free time daily or is it just one day, or none at all while your there. Do they have special accom. for family that comes to your graduation?

And lastly, Are there particular bases that medical personnel get sent in school or duty station?

Thanks-
Denise

In the Navy, they only have 1 boot camp now. It is in Great Lakes, IL. You do many things, !st your uniforms are issued, and then you have to stencil your name on all of them. There is alot of pt, but not every day. You will attend classes on military history and traditions, you will have firefighting school, they will demonstrate what it is like to be tear gassed. You will have a day or two at dental..depending on how much dental work you need done. You get some free time, not alot, enough to write letters etc. About halfway through training they let you go to the Base exchange to buy things, They let you make calls home at certain times. You have a competition against other recruit companies in physical events that include swimming. At graduation your family has to stay nearby in a motel, there are no accommodations on the base. Hope this helps Denise :)

as a female, you chances of getting HM in the Navy are about nil. it is closed to females probably until Fiscal Year 2009. Possibly later.

during Boot camp, there is very little free time, maybe a few hours on Sundays. Not only will you PT every day, you will probably be doing it more than once.

Recruits may have 4 tickets for family members to attend PIR. No special arrangements are made otherwise, they must secure thier own lodging and transportation. There are several nearby hotels and motels that may offere packages or discounts.

HM A school is across the tracks at Great Lakes. C schools are in various areas in the country, to include Balboa in San Diego and Bethesda in MD. Duty locations: all of them. Including some Marine Bases.

AF: depends on your TI. if your looking for an easy basic training, aif force is they way to go, after the first 2-3 weeks it flies by. during th 5th week you get to crawl in the mud. medical technical school is done at Sheppard AFB, TX
thats in witchita falls, tx. thats one of the worst base i've ever been to.
