I keep the pantry and fridge stocked with healthy foodstuffs like:

* Fresh garlic and ginger - a must for stir-fries
* Tinned tomatoes - They have a thousand uses
* Dried herbs & spices - To give low-fat food some kick
* Tins of tuna
* Dried pasta
* Tins of baked beans
* Bread - Wholemeal or multi-grain - Kept in the freezer
* Grated cheese
* Fresh eggs

It is surprising how many meals you can make out of these ingredients.

Don't keep snacks like chocolate, chips, lollies & ice-cream at home because you will only eat it!

I make a shopping list for the week, the main items are meat and vegetables, normally having this at the top of the list, followed by the carbohydrate items like rice and bread.

The other essentials like salt, oil will come in next and when it is time to shop, other things would come into other than those listed.

Check the balance before shopping, just to be safe

milk, eggs, cheese, celery, onions, salt, pepper, lemon juice, flour, sugar, cornstarch, italian seasoning, canned tomatoes, baking powder, baking soda, butter, vegetable oil. Chicken broth is usually available whether canned or homemade.

That's pretty much it for my absolute essentials. I can work with whatever is in the freezer, fridge, or pantry so long as I have these.
